Hi
My theory (not sure how accurate this would be) is that you can probably reclaim some of the charges if your closed account was sent to a collection agency. e.g. you could reclaim the unauthorised overdraft fees etc. but the costs of referral to the collection agency (unless the bank has significantly inflated this) probably can't be reclaimed?Stu0 -

Hello mate.
Past experiences suggest that once the debt is passed to a dca, it is clear of the banks hands. I would imagine you will recieve a cheque, and then pay off the dca yourself.0 -
It really depends if the debt is sold to the DCA or if they are acting as an agent for the bank.
which bank and which dca is it.
if its sold you should get a cheque. if its an agent they'll pay the debt off first.LegalBeagles0 -
Hi everyone!! I was wondering if anyone could assist, if I had bank debt that have been passed onto a debt collector, would it still be possible to reclaim the bank charges back. The debt is almost equal to the charges that were inccured, I have gone down the road of disputing the debt with the collection agency, whilst I am trying to claim my charges back, etc, but i'm down to the final stage, basically going to court! Is it best to just settle the debt & persist with reclaiming the charges back?
Thanks in advance!!0 -
Sorry if this has been posted before (I couldn’t find it).
I have successfully reclaimed from my Halifax account £446!!!! :money: I also have an Abbey account which was closed about two years ago.
I had been charged about £30’ish for going 30p in to unauthorised overdraft, I refused to pay as I thought it was ridicules.
Long story short, I never did pay and it increased to about £150 and then I believe they cancelled my account.
My bank has since told me they wrote off my debt, I remember being charged lots over the period of six years so went to my bank and they took £10 off me and wrote a letter which I signed they g me a copy and a receipt for the 10 quid (for my last six years bank statements).
I have not received my statements and its been well over a month, I have written another letter which says I will report them to the relevant authorities if I don’t receive my statements in the next 14 days. That is up and it still hasn’t arrived.
I understand it may be difficult as the account went to a debt collection company, but I really don’t know where I stand??
What do I do now??!?
Please help!0 -
I'm not an expert on this but they have 40 days to provide the 6 years worth of information. When that has passed you can report them to the Information Commissioner as they are in breach of the Data Protection act. Debt collection company or not it's still your money and you have the right to claim it back.

does any-one know if you can reclaim bank charges back if your account has been closed and you had been owing money to the bank and that has been passed to another company[debt recovery company] which is being paid back with a small payment each month.0
