I do have internet banking, but when I try to view earlier dates it tells me I can only view back to two months. If I could go back six years then It would make the whole process a whole lot quicker. Any ideas as to why I can only view two months of online statements - thanyou

  • Hi everyone,

i had a student account with Barclays, and it has been closed due to me not having paid my overdraft back. My account is now with a debt agency, and i am repaying them monthly.

am i still entitiled to claim back all my overdraft/bank charges even though my account is closed?

    Can anyone help?
  • Hi All

My partner and I got in a bit of a situation a couple of years ago when we had a baby. RBS were happy to dish out the fees and we are at the stage now where they have agreed to pay £1850. The problem is this. They closed my partner's account some time ago and passed her debt to their collections department who she made a payment arrangement of £50 per month with. She has'nt missed any payments since making the arrangement about 1 year ago. RBS have said that they can only pay into the account and it will have to come off the balance that she owes (about £5k). Are they trying it on??? If we threaten to go to court will they settle by cheque so that she can use the money as she sees fit??? Any advice greatly appreciated.

There are a number of posts like your blackryan. the answer is 'yes the bank can do that'. It is almost certainly in the T&Cs that they can use a credit to pay off a debt elsewhere and even if it were not I don't think a court would se eif differently.

Remember that you, or your partner, are in default and the bank could demand the full amount due at any time. I personally, do not think it is unreasonable for them to offset any refund against your debt - I'd not expect anything else myself to be honest. Perhaps you should instead concentrate on getting the maximum possible refund?

i agree with this as well, although I've been thinking about the court fee (30-180 squid), should this be refunded onto the bad debt or as a cheque?

yes, you can claim anything back from the last 6 years. They will prob credit it to the debt agency its with though...
  • Can I claim charges on rwo accounts which were closed a year ago with the Royal bank of Scotland?

One of the two accounts has been passed to a collection company who claim I am overdrawn by approx £2300 and in addition also claim they have been in discussion with me since last september ( which I can assure they have not ) I have requested information and copy statements from them this morning but they have advised me that they have " done all they can " by giving me the sort code and account number, they also advised me that the bank would not speak to me to discuss this as the account had been passed to them. Ive contacted the banks and they have agreed to send me the all statements within two week!

In addition the bank has also advised me the the other account is credit by £275 and this has account has been frozen as the funds will be used to clear the debt on the other account.

In a nutshell does anybody know if I am i able to claim back any of my charges on either of these accounts - which by the way I no longer use?

    Thanks in anticipation..

Should it get to this stage I would think you should be able to get any expenses incurred refunded to you by cheque.

You can claim for these charges but as any monies refunded are likely to be credited towards the debt due I would suggest you do the claims separately rather than as one depending on much is due on the account with the debt. Something to think about once you get the information/statements and work out what charges you can reclaim.
