I would apply to Mint yourself for the statements but be aware any monies refunded are likely to be refunded to the account with the debt. I'll pop this into the thread regarding accounts with a DCA.
  • before i got with my hubby he owed about £25k in loans & c/cards.

He's now got an arrangment to pay £20 a month on each with the interest stopped & most of them are through debt agency, the balances are going down but quite slowly. could he still ask for his charges to be paid back?

    Hi All,

i need a bit of guidance on claiming back bank charges for my daughter.

here goes: (long story cut short)

in 2003 i paid my daughters bank loan of £3000, the following month the bank withdrew her overdraft (£850) and swallowed up all of her wages for that month leaving her with no money, they said she was not handling her account correctly! she pointed out that if she was not managing it correctly she would not of paid off her loan in full she would merely of paid off the overdraft and spent the remainder.

anyway this left her overdrawn by something stupid like £1.05 this has now acrued interest and charges totalling £175.05 which has now gone to a collection agency. which i might add are quiet peristant. we wrote to the bank early on outlining the details to no avail. and i have just received back statements for all the requested years but when it come to the time of this instance they just show page totals and no actual transactions hence there is no record to prove this.

do i persue the bank charges ie overdraft interest and account charges which are listed monthly from august 2003 until february 2005, plus a returned direct debit or just let them get away with it and pay the £175 now outstanding.

as i am now proud to be dealing with my debt with a 0% credit card via this sites help i would be gratful of any helpful hints.

Footnote: my daughter is now living on benefits with a baby and i intent to go after abbey for charges over the christmas period relating to late payment of benifits just need to find a bank to take her on.

  • Hi

I have just written the first letter to Nationwide for the list of charges they have applied to my account. I estimate it to be around £1000.
I have not used the account for 2 years as I moved to a better bank. Nationwide are still applying charges to the accounts though. I have just had a letter from KPR Debt collection threatening all sorts as one of the accounts is £243.26 overdrawn. (unauthorised). I want to claim back the charges that I have actually paid (960.00) but can I also ask them to clear the charges that have been applied since I stopped using the account. They won't close my account and charge me £20.00+ per month. This £243 is charges that I have not actually paid out but if say I went through the moneyclaim bit I wouldn't want them to pay the money into the account that is already overdrawn! I would rather have a cheque as when I stopped using the accounts some 2 years ago the balances on both were showing as £0.00.
They have also registered a default notice on my credit file due to non payment of charges. Could I get that removed?
    I hope this makes sense.
  • Hi

Has anyone had a letter from KPR debt collection in relation to charges from Nationwide?
They are sending me all sorts of treatening letters unless I pay and the thing is I am just starting out on the road to reclaim nearly £1000 of charges. I am posting the dpa letter today.
I saw on the bottom of the letter though that kpr is a business name of nationwide. think they are just trying to scare me
  • Hi,
I wonder if anyone could offer me any advice. I banked with the A&L until recently. Last September I made a mistake and didn't have enough money in my account to cover a direct debit to my phone company. In doing this I incurred charges. At the time I was moving cities and in between jobs so didn't have the money available to pay this off. After a month or two the charges started to mount and being stupid I ignored the letters. In January I received a letter telling me my account has been closed and that the charges now stand at £500. Though I had now got a job I wasn’t able to pay it off and maybe part of me objected to me never actually going overdrawn as the direct debit bounced but still being given charges on charges. This has now come to a head today when I have opened up a letter from a debt recovery company telling me that they will be starting court proceedings. Has anyone got any advice please?

Offer to pay £1 a month to stop any court proceedings and start reclaiming your bank charges. Read Martin's article and the Reclaim Help Thread both are linked in my signature and I'll pop your post into a thread regarding these circumstances.

Send the letter asking for the list/statements to the bank and your claim to them but be aware that any monies reclaimed are likely to be passed to the DCA to pay the debt.
