He said that just the touchpad could cost up to £300 to replace and then theres the keyboard to pay for... If that turns out to be the case just getting the keybord mended would be enough and use a mouse rather than the touchpad.

If it is the ribbon problem for the keyboard getting it changed wouldnt mend the touchpad as well would it?
    Thanx

I think its just that vaios seem to be expensive to fix, definitely wont be buying a vaio again after this, its an expensive lesson

He is taking the mick.... the real cost of replacing a touchpad is the labour cost for disassembly, not the part itself.

Are you sure that she didn't spill something on the machine?
Anyway, checking the ribbon should be a first step.

No she definitely didnt spill anything on the machine, she was using it for about an hour and a half and it suddenly went while she was just about to save her work in word.

It will be in the new year now that we will find out if they will look at it for us as the tech guy wont be in again before then but I'm looking it up on the net to see if there are any others with the same problem on the vgn nw20sf and any guides on how to do it if it is that
    Thanx

My dell has arrived, I'm a bit stuck on starting it for first time can anyone tell me

its at the stage where it asks about updates, I dont think its to do with windows, i think its t do with software from dell or whoever
    it says,

yes ALLOW my system to recieve these updates and alerts
    or
yes ALLOW dell to collect service tag and other system and usage data

I cant take it all in, do I tick any of those boxes or should I not tick any at all and just press finish to start for th first time?

    EDIT
Had to tick both of them because i couldnt leave the machine on halfway between settiing up until anyoe could reply. hope ive done the right thing
    Thanx
