no you don't need to change anything in the BIOS and yep, change the keyboard to UK.

but if the mouse is working then it's definitely a software issue.

Next stage i have to either log on as local user

    or

to access the command prompt as well log on using administrator account

there are 2 choices homegroupuser$ and my daughters, Which should I choose? but I also just tested the keyboard by using daughtrs name and trying to put her password in and the keyboard is ot working, is there any way around this by bringing up a on screen keyboard somehow?
    Thanx

  • Hmmm sounds like a real hardware problem then, keyboard not working we need a Sony geek, it could be just a loose wire/connector. If the repair option does not work with the keyboard I would guess it is the kb, the repair option would have the original drivers etc in it's 100MB partition, and I notice the kb wasn't working on Ubuntu either

is there any way to get an on screen keyboard to get it throuh the repair process?

I'm not buying a flamin sony again if thats what it is

Would any of these go through without a password and work if I just press ok? like the homegroupuser$ would that do anything?

just tried it niether work without the password :(

I called sony tech again and got a much nicer lady, she said its definitely a hardware fault. It was probably misleading when I said the mouse was working in the system recovery and ubuntu I did mean the usb mouse not the trackpad and niether the trackpad or keyboard are working. She tried to see if it would work in the system restore and repair but it didnt.

What I need to know now is, can she delete any files from the system using ubunto now they have been saved, she may not want her personal and work files on there if its in for repair.

They gave me a place where it can go in for repair I rang and they said just for looking at it, it would be £60 to start with, not sure if its then charged by the hour but she said if parts are needed on top she cant give an approx price
    Thanx

No I don't I'm trying to find someone to borrow one from just to test it but, thinking about it if the wired mouse or trackpad doesnt work when trying to put the password in chances are its not going to work anyway and even if it did I would need to be able to use the mouse anyway. If I do get old of one I will definitely give it a go anyway... I'm just not happy that thy arent really cheap laptops and 2yrs I'm not impressed at all if it is the keyboard and mousepad that have gone. I wont ever buy sony again thats for sure

She knew the arrows and enter key worked in the bios, I didnt use the mouse or touchpad in there though. She knew the wired mouse worked and she asked me to take it out, reboot and test the touchpad it was only ever the wired mouse that was working I didnt think when I said the mouse was working, it was but only wired one so when I said that some people here might have assumed I meant mousepad
    Thanx

  • I work in a repairs shop and IMO £60 quid "just to look at it" is mad, both of the shops i have worked in (in glasgow) have ran on a no fix no fee policy...
