  • Been having a little think (dangerous and rare too) is one of these keys stuck perhaps Fn/Alt/Ctrl that might lead to the Keys not functioning, and my favourite would be the ctrl key

nice thought dcm mate, and a possibility.......

..another one may be to remove keyboard (once a usb one is at hand), and see then if usb kbd/trackpad work without the lappy's kbd in :)

I work in a repairs shop and IMO £60 quid "just to look at it" is mad, both of the shops i have worked in (in glasgow) have ran on a no fix no fee policy...

Its the one sony tech gave me as is out of waranty. They said it could take up to 3 weeks too when I rang them.
They are called Correct services ltd Carlton Nottingham, tried to look up info on them on the net but they don't seem to advertise that they repair vaio laptops, they seem to deal mostly in tvs.

I was thinking about trying to find some other place to do it though but its a bit scary giving your laptop to someone to repair so I want to be sure they are reputable. There are lots of laptop repairers coming up in google but wether they are safe to use is another matter
    Thanx

Already tried that after previous experience with another laptop, tried every single key :)

What do you mean, the battery out of under the laptop or the power source battery? how can it work without the battery?
    Thanx

I'm flippin tempted to try and take the keyboard off to see if its something simple like a loose wire would it show up easily if I did that?
I've never taken a laptop keyboard off on a sony before, only an old laptop when the keys got stuck. Looks a bit more complicated on a sony as though theres more to take off and dismantle. Is it worth trying and is it safe?

actually... come to think of it.

does the USB mouse work when you're on the Windows logon screen? if it does there should be a button for an onscreen keyboard (bottom left i think). From there you should be able to do a system restore.
Regardless of what the girl at Sony says, i'm still pretty sure it's a driver / software issue and not hardware. You can use the keyboard at any point up until Windows loading so the keyboard works fine. When you went to do the repair it asked you for your daughters password so it was still reading from Windows to see her account.

take the battery out of the laptop and just run it on mains.

...and to be sure, when you take the battery out, before you plug the mains in, hold down the power-on button for 40-50 secs, release, THEN plug the power supply in :)
