It's not advisable to run Norton and AVG together as they will clash and AVG may not even install correctly.

Download AVG, then uninstall Norton then install AVG. This will allow you to be protected at all times.

    Art.

Thank you all for your help!
Following a recommendation further up about using AVG if you have less than 2ghz (which i have) i'll try Avira.

Now..here's the problem, how do i uninstall Norton??

No not in the least lucky and I have been using that set up for over a year, before that I had 6 months with no firelwall at all and no problems, I have an old laptop I use when away and it has no anti virus or firewall on it at all, never had any problems.

    Whats your operating system?
If its windows, you HAVE been lucky......

Also, HOW do you know your computers clean? Your hardware firewall will NOT stop outgoing traffic (Should you have spyware on your machine)

PC - Ubuntu Linux (Linux malware does exist but unless you are dumb enough to surf in admin mode all the time nothings going to happen) plus I do scan all my outgoing mail with mailscanner for my window using friends.
Laptop - PC-BSD (BSD viruses and malware are like rocking horse poo)

Got to agree with that. You only have to look at a software firewall's logs to see how often your ports are scanned, and that's with a hardware firewall as well. I've personally watched a fresh XP installation without a software firewall (but still behind a router firewall) get a trojan uploaded to it through the ports within a couple of minutes online.

    You need a decent firewall

Main ones are Sunbelt, Comodo and Zonealarm

    Id advise BOTH programs actually
Malwarebytes is good for a secondary scan

Spybot is good for its IMMUNISATION feature (Stops pop ups etc), and again, a decent spyware scanner

Personally never used 'anti spyware', but I believe its very good (In fact I might try it out, out of sheer intrigue)
Spybot however stops popups and spyware browser pages before theyre allowed to attack (The IMMUNISE feature)

No harm in both I suppose ~ spybot doesnt run all the time (Unless 'tea timer' mode is selected)

  • I use Sophos Anti Virus and Firewall

CCleaner for clearing down temp files stored on PC

    Spybot

and for backing up i have an external hard drive to be extra safe, but use Acronis True Image which runs once a week at a time and date you prefer and i have a second hard drive which i back this up too.

Apart from that it depends on how you surf as to how safe you need to be, if you download and play alot of games, compared to surfing and shopping.

I have seen so many people who have too much software installed and that way they compete with one another
