Does avg use alot of resources

Depends really. My 2.2 gig and 3 gig dual core comps are fine with it. A slower than a 2 gig I would consider AVAST or AVIRA instead

(Ive been trying AVIRA out myself actually)

Also can i download them before Norton finishes? or do i wait until Norton ends?

    Thank you!!

It's not advisable to run Norton and AVG together as they will clash and AVG may not even install correctly.

Download AVG, then uninstall Norton then install AVG. This will allow you to be protected at all times.

Id have to slightly disagree with that. Id recommend installing the firewall before the anti virus. Especially as NORTONs on ~ every chance there will be some spyware on the computer as norton seems to be utter c*ap at detecting it!

After AVG is on id install MALWAREBYTES ~

UPDATE and SCAN (Just to check)

    and SPYBOT

    UPDATE, IMMUNISE and SCAN
(Immunise is to stop popups and various spyware getting into the browser)

I was simply dealing with the anti-virus issue and not the firewall.

No worries Art. Just wanted the OP to know that the firewall is probably more importnat than the anti virus

Think ill get rid of avg, ive noticed lately that when it does the scan the computer slows right down and i end up having to end the avg scan process.

Use a built in firewall on my router, nothing on my pc but an outgoing mail scanner. Never had a problem on it at all.

You have obviously been very, very lucky. Recently I had a virus which wiped my hard drive and made it unusable, and that was with anti virus software (Anti Vir) which I have now ditched and I use AVG.

No not in the least lucky and I have been using that set up for over a year, before that I had 6 months with no firelwall at all and no problems, I have an old laptop I use when away and it has no anti virus or firewall on it at all, never had any problems.
