Ihttp://free.prevx.com/ seem to have acquired a Security Scanner called Prevx CSI that I do not remember downloading !! Does it come with Windows Vista ? I have 'googled it' and cannot see anything detrimental. This is the link:-

    Any views would be welcome.

Uninstall it then. Ive never heard of it, and its clearly not wanted (And NOTHING to do with Vista)
I would guess that it was installed along with another program (Invariably when installing things these days, there will be various TICKED options, for example ~ CCleaner has a yahoo toolbar ticked by default)

I installed prevx and it took an age for me and a mate to uninstall it. You'll need to stop it working, close it down, cancel running processes too, then try to delete it manually.

I currently use Norton, but will be going to F-Secure as latest engine gets rid of that "Anti-virus 2008" virus.
My suggestion and/or advice is my own and it is up to you if you follow it, please check the advice given before acting on it.

Actually I moved from using AVG to Eset NOD32and found a huge improvement in speed and lightness on resources. Doing development work and also playing games I could see how much of a huge impact and interference even AVG has on resources. I can't now imagine using anything other than Eset because even all the free AV is too slowing.

AVG free is one of the lightest antivirus programs out there i leave it running on my pc all the time never slows it down and i play games use that pc as a server as well. if your computer is running slow with it then chances are it's conflicting with another program and as such using more resources than it should

I have AVG on my 2.2 Ghz XP computer, and it CAN run pretty slow at times
But on my vista 3Ghz dual core it barely registers a blip.
Seems to be highly cpu sensetive

Nope. And I think you misread my post, I quite explicity used relative and not absolute terms.

I am using a programme called Revo Uninstaller, which seems to be a lot more thorough than Windows Uninstall. It is a recommended program and can be downloaded completely free from :-

It uninstalled Prevx CSI for me inabout 2 minutes including Registry leftover items.

I notice a few saying they run windows firewall alongside another firewall. Running 2 software firewalls at the same time can cause conflicts that can result in neither being effective. (the reasons behind this run into several pages. Google it to see some proof)

The ideal set up should be
    1) one firewall minimun. Preferably have a router with built in firewall and firewall software other than windows firewall which ONLY blocks incoming effectively. Outgoing connections are more serious as this is where you need it most if you are behind a router. Keystroke loggers and screen capture viruses will be stopped in their tracks by a decent firewall.

    2) Antivirus - there are loads to choose from, but most important - keep it updated and run regular scans. At least once a month do a full scan.

    3) Anti spyware and Malware software

    Personally, I use
Broadband Router with in built firewall
    Norton Internet security 2008
Windows Defender ( from microsoft - does a great job protecting from unwanted startup programs and malware)
    SpyBot
    Ewido
I ditched Internet Explorer. Firefox is better, safer and more customisable. I have anti script software installed into firefox which is something I would never be without.
I don't use ad blockers, why see the page bare, the website you visit needs the income. Or would you rather pay for every pae you visit - comon, they have to earn a living

I have been virus free for 27 years !! (started computing 1981)
I have had 6 malware infections in that time, all ad replacers(change the ads on the page you are viewing so someone else gets paid rather than the guy who spent hours writing it all up.)

    Free AVG - frequently updated,
    ZoneAlarm,
    Spybot

No trouble so far. Free AVG antivirus is OK and does not slug performance much. Bought Norton last year and took it off after it slowed the PC down to a nothingness. I also ditched Internet Explorer long ago. The Opera web browser works well and is probably less vulnerable to attacks that IE.
