Hi, i have currently signed up to the virgin vip package and within this package you can get all your virus protection free if you are on the top pack.
If you are on basic you can get it for £3.00 a month.
My question is how can we get rid of norton avg any help would be grateful as it is interfering with virgin.
Thanks Jen0 -

Thanks Jen
You can use the Symantec removal tool to fully un-install Norton available from here. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -

I use
AVG free
Spywareblaster
windows firewall
I run spybot every now and then
I have not had any problems. The thing to do with teenage use is to get them their own pc. My son has the same protection and when he got a virus last year avg picked it up immediately and the other pc's on the network were not affected. avg however had problems removing the virus but we found enough info on the web to be able to get rid of it completely.
If your pc is set up the way you want it create a restore point and burn it to dvd. Then turn off system restore. Your pc will work faster & viruses, spyware have a nasty habit of hiding themselves in the restore folders.Nudge nudge, Wink wink, Say No More!0 -
I use Kaspersky Internet Security Suite 6.
Its incredibly light on system resources, and I have it running happily on a Win 2000 PC with only 256MB RAM, as well as a more powerful PC. I notice no performance effect at all. Its an excellent piece of software and my PC (fingers crossed) has NEVER been infected with viruses or spyware.Lack of money is the root of all evil.

Kaspersky is good but it's a waste of money as Steganos is cheaper and is pretty much the exact same software just a different name."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

Ahh yes, you're guite right. However in the recent Computer Shopper test, Steganos despite being nearly identical did not get the same results as Kaspersky. Ok, it wasn't far off but still...
Its not just the product that is important. I am impressed by Kaspersky's Customer service. I've had one of two small problems which have been solved within 1/2 hour of posting on their forums, by Kaspersky staff. So its not just the product that counts, but the customer service too. I have'nt tried Stegano's customer service, but since Kaspersky's is so good I don't have much reason to.Lack of money is the root of all evil.

I was mostly going from the computer shopper reviews as well. I can't speak personally about steganos as I use AVG which is vastly superior to the McAfee Enterprise that I was using.

It seems like Computer Shopper is a lot more popular than I thought!
AVG Free is very comendable and puts the 'big two' to shame. I can't believe that Symantec and McAfee with their millions in research and development can't yield better results in virus detection than AVG. Its nice to see the 'little guys' can still thrash the 'big guys' in the world of AV software.

They do tests about every six months and are widely used by the industry. The reports (one has just come out) are free to everyone and are available in PDF format.Lack of money is the root of all evil.

I currently have:
Sophos Antivirus
Adaware
Spybot search and destroy
I have the Windoew firewall enabled but I think I should get another one...can anybody suggest a good, free one? If I install a new one do I have to disable the Windows firewall?
Slightly off-topic, when you uninstall software some of it gets left behind. Is there any "safe" free software out there to remove these bits?0
