The upgrade is just about to expire and my Mum has asked me to add her into the package, her machine is also not an up to the minute model, so I am keen to see if anything else out there is going to be better and less system hungry?
Both PC's are Pentium III running XP Home. My PC is Pentium 4 running XP Pro.
Thanks
TOTALLY Agree - Just upgraded both my machines to the new McAfee and it stinks.
So slow - hogs my bandwidth, ties up the CPU all the time - takes ages to do anything and on the gaming machine it could not connect to the webpages.
So I have just got a refund from them and will try out some of the stuff on here.....
If you are about to try mcAfee for the 1st time beware.
Oh - their cust service was great got a refund in less than 12 hours from emailing them :TTo be able under all circumstances to practice five things constitutes perfect virtue; these five things are gravity, generosity of soul, sincerity, earnestness and kindness.0 -

Go for AVG, Spybot and AdAware. They will look after you and they are all free.

I feel so sorry for all of you......I use none as I use a Macbook :-)
However, when I used PC's I used Panda antivirus with built-in firewall and spyware detector.Approx £25 per year for 3 licenses. I use one on my daughter laptop, and just put it on 2 of my friends PC's, it found at least 2 virus's on them that AVG did'nt.0 -
Linux, no virii, no adware, no spyware, free software and it runs better than any MS OS
Oh and for people who like Vista’s 3D effects then check this out:

FREE KASPERSKY INTERNET SECURITY 6
I would just like to point out that Computer Shopper Magazine has Kaspersky Internet Security 6 on the cover disc with 6 months of free subscription. The cheapest version of the magazine is about £3.75 (CD) and comes with it.
Kaspersky is widely regarded as one of the best paid for AV suites around, amongst NOD32 and F-Secure.
I've used it and its been fantastic after leaving the bloated Norton package. Kaspersky runs very happily on my P3 500MHZ 256Mb laptop (Win2000) and the impact on the system has been barely noticeable - unlike Norton, ahem!
So for those who find their Norton/McAfee subscriptions running out, or wish to try a new AV, then buy a copy of Computer Shopper and give Kaspersky a go.
Enjoy!

Hi
Wondered if anyone could help with this, not sure i've made the right choice on the old anti virus front.
Following many of the crowd on here I thought I'd try AVG so have downloaded the trial from the website. But now it seems to be making my PC run really slowly. Not from an internet point of view as that runs fine, but in terms of how quickly new windows open and how quickly it responds to mouse clicks. Is this likely to be because of the AVG download?

I've used AVG for some time and never found any problem with it. Try uninstalling AVG and see if this solves the problem. Then try downloading it again.
