It's probably already been mentioned, but im afraid here it is again! lol
    • AVG Free edition - best Anti Virus out there and it's FREE!! (as if from the name i had to tell you!!)
    • Spybot S&D - a comprehensive spyware and malware removal program, it also cleans your registry and in advanced mode acts like a shredder for any really important documents you delete (as even after you have removed them form your recycling bin they are still on your PC and can still be found!!) Oh and it's FREE!!!
    • Ad-aware - Lavasofts spyware and malware system is unbeatable!! I love it, easy to use, very deep scanning and always does the job!! Oh and it's FREE!!
    • Spyware Blaster - This is more of a protective sheild i have. It basically stops websites running unwanted script and or dropping viruses and spyware onto your PC, it supports Internet explorer and Firefox and has a blocking mech in it that can even restrict internet access. and yes, it's FREE!!!
I guess the point im trying to make here is this, all computers come with some form of Anti Virus, Norton, Mcaffe, Windows own etc, but they are all very expensive products and eventually you'll have to either pay for them, or go through the painstaking process of removing them!! I say that as they are embedded into the central system and are git's to get rid of!! There are so many open source FREE products on the market that are just as good and better!! As the company Techy ive recently been though all the PC's here and removed all the top branded names and replaced it with easy to use, free software....i guess im just one who likes to take on the big guns of the corporate world!! heheheh

    anyway, im rambling!

If you want any links to the above software just ask and ill either post them or message you.

They are all mentioned in the article. Have to disagree with preinstalled AV being difficult to remove. I've found it incredibly easy to remove mcafee and norton of the ones I remember. I also think I should point out none of the products so far mentioned are open source.

Sorry, meant to add KSpyware to my list as the open source spyware http://nzeka-labs.com/hacking/KSpyware.htm

As for the removal process, it was for Norton. The Uninstaller didnt work and neither could add or remove programs (due to the uninstaller previously removing some relavent uninstall file!!) So i had to follow the manual uninstall process, i wont go into detail, but the info is here http://!!!!!!!.com/3qe9z basically it took forever!! I figured it was just a hitch on my behalf, but when i then went to uninstall it from my Dad's pc, it happened again!! Once, ok maybe human error, twice somit isnt right!! I have seen the same issuse with Mcaffe as well!! I just a becareful note to all.

You're not allowed to use shortened links which is why you've got !!!!!!.com. I've personally never come across a problem when uninstalling either Norton or McAfee from many pcs so I can only state from personal experience that it was very easy and problem free, so by definition it can't be a blanket problem for everyone. I was only responding because you stated they were difficult to get rid of implying it was universal, maybe you should have prefixed it that it was just in your own experience, as I had with my response.

Anyone ever had fun trying to
    1. Install Zone Alarm?
    2. Uninstall Zone Alarm?
It's supposed to be a great firewall, but i installed it and it froze, then uninstalled half of it and got constant problems until I picked through all my files to try and get rid!! I think 'Hijackthis' finally brought up the registrey files and i deleted it from there, but it's a very touchy piece of kit!!

Just interested if it REALLY is just me!! lmao :rotfl:
