You can only have one anti-virus app installed at any time. If you wanted something more efficient than norton then you would have to uninstall norton first before you could install a different anti-virus. If you want more anti-spyware you should read the free software article."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

Many thanks for the advice - although I am with Norton for another nine or so months, what would you consider to be more efficient?0 -

I've heard quite a lot of things about norton taking up too much resources. I've started using AVG, while others recommend Avast. When I installed AVG it found a virus that McAfee missed so I'm quite impressed. AVG and Avast are also free. If you were determined to get that absolute best and pay for it then I think NOD32 is tested as being the best at detection."She is quite the oddball. The decision has to be yours! There is no perfect solution but surely you should have looked into this before re-newing your subscription recently. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
Yes, it's good to be wise after the event isn't it - hindsight is great - but I am really not computer savvy and tend to put these things off.
Unfortunately I'd put it off until the very last moment to think of the options - in other words it was too late to do anything other than renew. Next time I hope to be more savvy!
Hence I am asking for advice on what is the best anti-virus, whether or not I have to pay for it, and generally trying to gen up on options.0 -

When my Norton anti virus ran out last year I didn't renew it but downloaded the free version of AVG.
I can fully recommend it.

So, did you have to uninstall all the Norton before or after you had downloaded the AVG? Presumably you had a firewall with Norton - is there one with AVG? How did the process of switchover go?0 -

It is important to uninstall Norton first and then install AVG or you will have them conflicting and causing problems for you.
No, my Norton didn't have a firewall and AVG doesn't either. If you want a free firewall there have been a few suggestions in this thread earlier.

Hi All
Can anyone recommend a good free firewall app?
I did have the free ZoneAlarm Firewall but it keeps throwing up blue screen errors, checked on the ZoneAlarm website forums and this appears to be a common problem with the current version !?This is a system account and does not represent a real person.
