I'm glad you run this, cos sooo many people don't bother. IMO it's the best defence there is.

I posted about a year ago when this thread was pretty young, commenting that I was virus free without any checkers installed, and afaict this is still the situation. I must admit tho, I have installed F-secure recently, but without it claiming to find anything. If the virus you're trying to defend yourself from gets as far as your virus scanning engine, you need to ba asking what's gone wrong, having an aAV tool installed does not give 100% protection.
  • I use the following:

Zone Alarm Security Suite - Excellent all round product that sits behind a wireless router with further protection at inbound and outbound level (Outbound to prevent spreading if I do happen to get a virus/spyware/malware etc).

I also make it a habit to destroy properly (Data Shredding) all sensitive information where I can and encrypt sensitive files that I wish to save (Which isn't many).

The best option IMHO though is to not only stay up to date with systems updates but to exercise caution - not to open attachments from sources I don't know or recognise, not to travel through websites that insist I install further ActiveX controls etc and to not accept software I do chose to download to insist in me installing further 3rd party add-ons.

Kaspersky Internet Security. You can get a free 6 months license from the latest PC Pro magazine - issue 145, November 2006. I was about to pay £40 for a year's license. Lucky I found it in my local shop! :money:

Kevin, I really think that Sandboxie (from sandboxie.com) is something that would be of interest to you. Seems to me like something that would suit your security needs and may allow you to have more freedom when you travel through different websites. I have been using it for months now and the protection is really amazing (can't praise it enough).
Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????

    Problem of the week!

  • I believe norton anti virus / mcafee products are the best on the market.

I have tried AVG and Panda and these didn't get rid of the virus so don't see the point of these products.

    PC World
Norton normal retails at PC for £59.99 inc VAT (Norton Internet Security 2006)

Note : I did see they bundle Ghost and Go Back - I believe this is a PC World Special.

but when computer companies are building machines and want to ship say norton they ship a version call OEM (Original Equipment Manufacture) so you just get a disk no manual of packaging etc... and it cost alot less .

http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/103065 - Internet security on ebuyer £21.51 inc VAT and super saver postage...

I hope this saves some monies
