I use Windows XP with non-admin accounts (no password). An ACL based software restriction is setup to block all unauthorized program from running.
The system is prevented to be booted by HDD password.
Then there is Avast AV and Comodo firewall.0 -
I have basic Windows Firewall for Windows 7 . My router also has its firewall turn on. I use Norton Internet Security 2012 , it is light on the system.0

The thing is, none of this is needed if you don't open unknown attachments or visit dodgy sites or install dodgy software. And I even have a teenager use my laptop - well trained, of course
.
No, most of the time it's not needed, like seat belts in cars.
The last time I had a trojan blocked, it was on in a page on Autotrader; hardly a 'dodgy' site.
Like the next accident or near miss, none of us knows when it's coming....0 -

I use Kaspersky on the primary laptop and have done for a couple of years, does a sound enough job.
However during the last year my laptop was changed and I ended up mid year on 2 licenses so I need a new AV on the 2ndary netbook, I'm going to try my luck with avast free.Sealed pot challange no: 3390 -

My subscription to McAfee has expired and I intend to delete it. I have downloaded Windows Security Essentials to replace McAfee. I have a couple of question, please.
I have a Lenovo Laptop and installed is something called Lenovo Thinkvantage Toolbox. This reports on things like, system and security etc.Having installed Windows Security essentials, I am informed that the Firewall is now reduce from Advanced to Basic. Is the Windows Firewall all I need?
I have had trouble uninstalling McAfee and am now trying to get rid of it by using Revo Uninstaller. Is this the best way to get rid of McAfee?0
