The Windows firewall will suffice & integrates well with MSE. Use the MCPR to uninstall Mcafee.

Hi,
I wonder can someone advise me please?
I have a Dell Win 7 using MS Security Essentials without any problems, but feel the need to improve my security.
Malwarebytes seems very well thought off, so I thought of installing that, but if so is it worth paying the extra for even more peace of mind and buying the payed for edition?
I am clueless when it comes to computers and would be very grateful for any advice. Thanks very much.

ps I am using windows firewall and Rapport-which seems to have worked fine over several years0 -
You can have too much, but - If you've the resources - the Pro version is worth the one-off lifetime license fee for me. As well as the filesystem protection, there's also the IP protection that blocks content from known malicious IP ranges.
Before you buy , you can decide for yourself by trialling it free for a couple of weeks when you install the free version.
Another thing I would say is keep the system updated and commonly exploited programs if you have them installed - Adobe, Java etc.

Hi waddler,
Thanks very much for your very helpful reply.
My system is fairly powerful, I think, so hope that wont be a problem.
I just looked at MBAM website and noticed it doesnt cater for Win 8 yet, is it likely to in time do you think? in case I upgrade.
I always try and keep the system updated, relying on Win update and any other reminders that pop up-is that doing enough or do i need to check vulnerable programs individually? I will read those links you provided.
I will almost certainly follow your suggestion; download and try free and then buy.
Thanks again, very much appreciated.

Windows 8 is supported.

There's a new release (1.70) in the pipeline too that irons out a couple of minor bugs (Windows 8 and Internet Explorer 10 identified correctly in scan logs). I'm using the beta now.0 -
Hi waddler,

I use Norton AntiVirus on my Mac. Works like a charm and cost me £9 after I found a discount code for something like 40% off!0
