There is no such thing as best, as many folk have quoted.
I use the following as they have worked well for me, reliable and cause the least problems.
Virus: Avast Anti Virus, free for personal use.
Firewall: Zonealarm, free personal use version.
Exploit protection: Exploitshield (new beta software, need to google it).
I will run these every now and then for trojans, spyware, malware etc.

AVG is free to use and works as well as any of the paid ones0

Hi all, very interesting thread. I have just purchased a new computer after my previous one nearly ground to a halt. Heres my question. I want to download Avast AV. But am not sure which "trusted " site to download from. I have done a few downlads lately, and inadvertantly downloaded Babylong search bar, which caused me all sorts of problems. So which site should i download from please. Thanks0

My free trial of malwarebytes anti malware expires today, is there a long term free one or do I need to buy it?
I also have Avast (free), what else do I need?
Thanks0 -
It'll just revert to the free version when the trial ends which can still be used as an on demand scanner to detect & remove malware.0

Just ensure that common vulnerabilities are patched and programs updated, particularly those with a browser add-on.

Consider using a custom hosts file.

we use NOD32 corporate and sonicwall device, it gets the job done. we tried several others in the past, but it seems like NOD32 gives us the best protection with the smallest footprint.
