I don't like to clutter my pc with lots of different software from different companies as some of them double up on what others do (using more memory than you really need) and sometimes they conflict.
I just use ESET security suite - highly professional and never had an issue for the past 5 years of using these guys. Also think it's a plus that it's not a main brand, as the problem with the main brands is that hackers specifically look for weaknesses with these, where as ESET still goes under the radar (no point in taking time to look in to security loops for ESET to hit a few, when others (Norton) will have hundreds and thousands of users). My son is now an ‘entrepreneur’. Finally I can contribute to this site!
If you only download one progam to help protect your PC/Laptop then it should be this....
Sandboxie (add dot com for the site)
The blurb on their website describes it better than I could.- Secure Web Browsing: Running your Web browser under the protection of Sandboxie means that all malicious software downloaded by the browser is trapped in the sandbox and can be discarded trivially.
- Enhanced Privacy: Browsing history, cookies, and cached temporary files collected while Web browsing stay in the sandbox and don't leak into Windows.
- Secure E-mail: Viruses and other malicious software that might be hiding in your email can't break out of the sandbox and can't infect your real system.
- Windows Stays Lean: Prevent wear-and-tear in Windows by installing software into an isolated sandbox.
I regularly use Malewarebytes Anti-malware and Superantispyware to check up on things but have never, ever, found anything.
I am a former NHS Systems Information Manager and still regularly clean people's computers from infections and install software.
By the way.... this is Freeware.0 -
I have seen Sandboxie recommended before. I haven't got around to using it myself but believe it to be a good choice in the fight against 'nasties'0

As I think others have stated, running so many similar applications will often conflict. At the very least they'll slow your PC down - best to stick with as little as possible, particularly if you can install one program that does the lost as most do these days (virus, firewall, spyware).
Even the free Microsoft version will cover all 3 of these reasonably well.
However, I'm going to throw something in.... I run no security on my PC (with the exception of the inbound firewall built into my broadband router). I will (say, every 6 months) run one of the free online scanners to double check it's clean but it is.
The thing is, none of this is needed if you don't open unknown attachments or visit dodgy sites or install dodgy software. And I even have a teenager use my laptop - well trained, of course
The consequence of this - it's free and both my PC and connection are far, far quicker. Boot time is particularly quick.

I use AVG and Malwarebytes. Not really had many problems! Although AVG seems to slow a computer down much more than it did a few years back.0

I use the inbuilt Windows firewall and the free edition of AVAST -- it seems a pretty good anti-virus software, blocks plenty of Trojans.0
