I've got Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 and it slows my PC down soo much.
In fact I'm loathe to put it on my new laptop when it arrives.
Any advice to speed it up? One bothersome aspect is the 'rootkit scan' it performs with no means to turn it off. I've read vague mention of downloadable skins that incorporate an off button for this scan but without advice I'm wary to hunt one down.
So anyone have any advice and should I bother putting it on my laptop? (got one last user key for it)0 -

In Kaspersky Int security 2009 (pretty much the same as 2010)
launch the KIS home page via the "K" logo on the toolbar then settings then full scan then setting then additional.
You can adjust the rootkit scan settings from there.
Hope that helps.
Out of interest I'm running KIS 2009 version because 2010 slows my machine too.
You can still download KIS2009 from here http://www.kaspersky.co.uk/kis_latest_versions0 -
Hi guys,
Im back after your fab advice last year!
So, I think i installed AVAST and COMODO last year??although it looks as though i have a button for Mozilla Firefox on my desktop!?
Anyway, AVAST has run its course and is now out of date, everytime i click to update for the freebie it seems like it is downloading but then nothing seems to happen as the Avast warning comes up about it being out of date?
I dont get all this technical stuff so i need basics please?
Im using a 3 year old laptop (E System intel core duo t2080 1.73ghz)
Thank you:T0 -

Download HIJACK THIS (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION')
http://www.filehippo.com/download_hijackthis/
Click MAIN MENU then DO A SYSTEM SCAN AND SAVE A LOGFILE(Takes seconds) then post the log so we can see whats running
(do NOT do anything else with Hijack but scan and post the FULL log):idea:0 -
Hi all,
I'm a newbie seeking some security advice for my new laptop, having relied on free AVG and not a lot else up to now! Have managed to glean loads of useful info and links from this forum (well, pg 51 onwards anyway...: ) Particular thanks to aliEnRIK.
Seems for my needs like the free basic route is:
Browser = Firefox + NOSCRIPT plugin
AV = Avira
Spyware = Malwarebytes, Superantispyware, Spybot S+D with immunise feature
Firewall = PC tools or Comodo
or all-in-one?: MSE - any of the above needed in conjuction with this?
Or pay for KIS 2010 (and use Firefox) anything else needed?
Just switched on my new machine (using old broken one to post this!), which has Windows 7 OS, and it looks like it has McAfee free trial (haven't activated) and the Windows firewall.
I don't mind paying £15 for KIS, but don't have money to burn, especially if the free stuff is on a par/better?
Any thoughts/corrections (no doubt!)?
Many thanks.0 -

Exactly the same as me with Win7.
But if you're connected via a router, then the Vista or Win 7 firewalls are perfectly adequate.
An argument could be made for a 3rd party firewall with XP, but I eventually never bothered.Move along, nothing to see.0 -

Don't forget to run the AVG Removal Tool, make sure you choose the appropriate version.Move along, nothing to see.0 -
I use the AVG Vs 8.5.437. It's the paid for version but well worth it. Never had any problems (so far!)
I still use XP and have no desire to change. Also known as "Flaglady" because I love using flags in church!0 -

I cant believe you pay for AVG!
Is it the version with the firewall or is it just the av?:idea:0
