Yup, you're missing something - the facts.
That is a pretty good website, thanks for the link.
My point though, For Free the Microsoft Security Essentials is pretty good and Avast Free even better .
Why pay when both of these are pretty good as part of a security routine.
Obviously , like anything in life , if you want to pay , then ive no doubt you can get better. For free though these both hold there own pretty well.

I had a bit of time on my hands a little while back and decided to set up my home with a security system.
I started with a burglar alarm connected to my phone line to call me if it goes off - great, but then I thought, what if they cut the phone lines! So I bought another box with an sim card (pay as you go) which does the same thing, problem solved!
I then started to think, I'd like to see whats going on if I did have an intruder, so I bought a web cam and connected it to my pc, connected to the internet and presto - live action. The trouble was everytime my pc connected to the internet my provides ip address changed, so I had to install a bit of software to sort this out, no-ip I think it was called - problem solved. Well, if you don't mind leaving your pc on all the time. So I bought a dvr machine with a camera which had its own ip. This means I can connect the dvr directly to the modem/router and don't need to have my computer on (I could have done this through a ip camera, but wanted it to record so I would have had to have software controlling it on my pc which defeats the purpose). I managed to figure out the dns settings, which basically connects my modem and dns site up via comunication messages being sent via the router. This sounds complicated, but its easier than I've managed to make it sound!
So I have a dvr, with cameras setup in my house which are connected to the internet. The dvr had software so I could view them from the internet. But I wanted more - I wanted it on my phone!
I managed to get a app from android to view webcams/cameras on yur phone, so bingo bango its all setup.
I'm now thinking of doing more - any ideas?!:T
get another pay as you go phone with a speaker conection, have it hidden in the house.
Have speakers all over the building so when you spot a burglar you can tell him he is being watched and recorded and tell him that you can see what he is doing. Order him to stop it an lie down etc. Should amuse you while you wait for the police to lift him or panic him enough to run away. The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Sadly your not allowed to electrocute, fire nail guns or rig trap doors over piranha tanks so I have considered how could you cause hassle for the burglar without facing a manslaughter charge.
I have considered three things
1. we often concentrate on the sounder outside but it would be just as useful to have sounders inside that create an earsplitting sound level.
2. Strobes, if its dark, you can get compact rapid firing disco strobes from about £15.
3. Smoke. You can get aerosols of stage smoke, perhaps adapting the actuator from one of those airwick automatic air fresheners to let the lot loose when the alarm goes off.0 -

I am not a number..! how about giant inflated white bubble rolling down the stairs like in The Prisoner? giant beachball rigged to an car airbag inflator?0 -

This is interesting re no 1 - I used to work in an organisation that had so called sound bombs under test, very loud high pitched electronic whine with intermittent pulses, followed by very low frequency pulses that actually made you feel sick.
Strobes smoke and coloured lighting have been used to disorientate as well. But stage smoke does leave a fine film of grease on things.
Maybe something that you could spray some sort of dye on the burglar like one of these http://www.farbgelspray.com/ or http://www.c-p-p.co.uk/product/asp/ProdID/2324/af/page.htm just make sure the target area is not near anything you would grudge getting gooped. The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Can anyone recommend a free-AV that is as light as Avira on RAM etc but is also reliable? I do realize that I may have to trade one advantage against the other. Any advice appreciated.
Yes i use latest avast 5 and malawarebytes anti-malware, that combination is the lightest and best if you are tight on resources try google chrome as well!Update and scan regularlynever put off buying a bargain today,it may be gone tomorrow0 -

IMO Avast has never been particularly 'light', Avira uses way less resources and is still my #1 for 'sensible' users.
These days, I recommend MS Essentials for 'the rest'.
Before peeps start protesting, 'sensible' and 'the rest' are the way I evaluate users, before making a recommendation.
There is no criticism implied or otherwise, of anyone who uses either program.Move along, nothing to see.0 -
Get a proper prog.
Kaspersky 2009 Internet security on ebay. A tenner post paid. Updates to 2010 automatically. Works a treat. Genuine and boxed. I would not trust freebies with my bank account. Why chance your details for a tenner ?
And before you ask...no I have nothing to gain by this reply.
