I have just installed a copy (free...thanks, Symantec rep guy
) of Norton 360 v4 and I'm actually pretty impressed....I hardly know it's there, and I haven't had anything bad happen.
The only real annoyance I have is the "Norton 360 is performing background tasks" pop-up, which doesn't disappear until you close it, and also doesn't tell you what 'background tasks' it's doing. All in all, not bad...I'd even be tempted to pay the £30 for it.Squirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

Hi IH8 (remember lose the last 6 letters
),
Malwarebytes is an antimalware prog which I would suggest you run every week, of course the experts might contradict me, but it is a reactive program suite, it does not automatically update , but more to the point of the question you asked nothing is guaranteed to save you from any malware. Avast or Avira or Microsoft Security Essentials or Norton or McAfee etc etc are part of the tools you use to hopefully prevent being infected.
I could say that the only way to be really sure is that you don't use the internet but then you can't talk to us. Basically use your common sense and don't click on links unless you are happy that they are from a source that you trust. There is not a way to totally secure yourself from the outside world , but keep your anti-virus up to date, use Malwarebytes regurlary and update before you use it, don't click on links in emails from your friends' email address unless they are to be trusted,eg If you get one that says Hi IH8stress check this out for a good deal ... don't. But if you get one that says I Sarah(sorry if you are Steven), remember I said last night here is the photo of DCM http://..... then that may well be ok.
There is every chance even I , and also even the younger guys and girls here will be caught and there is no product to stop that from happening, but we can all hope that it will not happen. I could go on to suggest Firefox and No Script , as a help but not everyone here will agree they will say Chrome, or Opera or whatever for a browser but basically you have to learn and learn again. The best advice I can give from the outside is make sure you have a backup before you further (with your new PC .. I remember your earlier posts) and make sure you do a few every weeks/months, it makes a resolution a lot less painful if you don'e have to worry about losing family piccies / CV's / or whatever is important to you.

I could go on to suggest Firefox and No Script , as a helpI am thinking of downloading Firefox though there seem to be one or two moans appearing on here about it lately. My son had it on his laptop with the No Scripts but we couldn't fathom it out properly so of course ended up 'allowing' sites we visited which of course defeats the object:o but not everyone here will agree they will say Chrome, or Opera or whatever for a browser but basically you have to learn and learn again. Hi, can anyone help me please?
Currently using Avira free version and very happy with it.
However, I bought Kaspersky 2009 security from the works for £7.99, as I have read good reports about it.
Can someone tell me what the best way is to go on putting this on my system and taking avira off?
Also heard you can update it to the 2010 one, whats the best way of doing that?
Appreciate any help that you can give me.
Thanks!0 -
Far as im aware a simple uninstall will remove Avira:idea:0

I purchased the Kaspersky 2009 3 user edition at £14.99 as advised by
aliEnRIK from this post and have been extremely pleased with it.
I was checking some info recently and found that you can upgrade to the 2010 version for free by clicking 'Support' (Bottom left of your Kaspersky security) which takes you to the link to download it.
:A
Thanks for the info - as my 2009 one is about to expire. Does the free upgrade cover the 3 computers as well? All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
