I'm not sure wether this info is posted on the Techie board, but if it isn't I hope it will be useful info for some members and possibly save folk some money... :)

I purchased the Kaspersky 2009 3 user edition at £14.99 as advised by
aliEnRIK from this post and have been extremely pleased with it.

I was checking some info recently and found that you can upgrade to the 2010 version for free by clicking 'Support' (Bottom left of your Kaspersky security) which takes you to the link to download it.

I've just checked Amazon and they are currently selling the 2010 version for £33.90 here

Prices are correct at the time of posting.

    Many thanks again Rik :A

Just a quick point though, make sure you uninstall KIS 2009 before installing KIS 2010 and don't install 2010 over 2009, as some have had problems if you read the KIS support forum.

    Hi onejohntwo, thank you.

I just followed the steps which I was given when downloading it. It didn't say I had to uninstall first. I just presumed the program would do everything neccessary to install the 2010 version.

I haven't noticed any problems so far!

I use the new (ish) Microsoft security essentials. Its FREE, works well, and is low impact on system resources. I used to use AVG but I prefer this...

same here. do you often get not responding messages? is it virtually impossible to do anything else when it is updating?

I did exactly the same as you, but if you go onto the Kaspersky forum the experts will tell you not to install over the top as it has caused problems. But if you've already done it , what the heck, join the club as touch wood I've had no problems and that was a good few months ago.

Do you have it set to automatically update? If so it updates small files regularly and only takes a matter of minutes and so is hardly noticeable. Whereas if you update by schedule it updates large files in one go.

yes it is set to do it automatically. with the 2009 version it used to start as soon as i logged on and would be done very quickly. with the 2010 version it doesnt update until i have been logged on for a few minutes and it takes between 3 to 5 minutes to update and everything slows down.

    At present I have:

    Windows Firewall
    Avast (the free version)
    Windows Defender

It does say though in my Windows 7 Action Center that running two or more antispyware programs at the same time can cause your computer to run slowly.

I will download malwarebytes shortly. Does this automatically update and scan or do I have to do it manually?

    Will these things be enough?

    Thanks
