    Sorry, it's me again.
I've been having trouble accessing internet so have completely lost track of where I was up to with clearing trojans from my computer. I think a couple of your replies have disappeared from the forum so I'm just completely baffled. I remember one of your replies told me to turn off my anti virus (which I don't know how to do), so I haven't yet downloaded the Microsoft anti-virus that you suggested. Am I taking a chance not doing this? What am I like?
Given that the replies have disappeared (?) I am slightly non-plussed too Lol. Why do you wish to turn off your anti-virus software? Microsoft anti-virus? I take it you mean MSE. Best to have only one anti-virus install.
  • Sorry Busenbust, when I say replies have disappeared, I probably mean 'I can't find them'. I am a terrible technophobe and just fly by the seat of my pants - so to speak. I'm in a terrible quandry about this matter and at my wits end. My computer is working soooo slowly and I'm not sure if it's because of this problem or general. Not explaining myself very well either. I did mean MSE to run alongside Malwarebytes. Is this not advisable?

No, that's perfectly acceptable. Remember though:
Activating the full version unlocks realtime protection, scheduled scanning, and scheduled updating

Not so the free version of malwarebyes I think. ;)

I use Linux. No real need for AV software. :D

On Windows, when I use it, I use Microsoft Security Essentials. That, and a bit of common sense works just fine for me.

Encrypt your wireless network with WPA2 and a decent key and you should be good. Anything else, for home use at least, is just paranoia.

MSE is pretty much useless at stopping infected websites

To be flippant on my behalf, it sometimes depends what sites you're looking at. :D

True, but then ive had experience of a legit site that got hacked and attacked thousands. That could easily happen to this site sometime in the future

I installed MSE on my netbook as it came highly recommnded on here. Are you saying it's not much use?

I have Avast, Comodo, Windows Defender and SpywareBlaster on my other machines. Would they be better?

I know this sounds kinda smug, but I don't really use protection right now, cause I've got a mac. It has been predicted, that some viruses will turn up for macs in near future, but I do not know if I should believe them. I think I might just go with linux after that. Cause I really don't like the idea of having virus protection software slowing down your computer.
