  • I use:

    Windows Vista Home Premium
    Windows Defender Turned On
Wireless Router from BT with Firewall switched On
    AVG Anti-Virus 8.5
Comodo Firewall (Used to use ZoneAlarm but there have been issues with it and Firefox in Vista)
Firefox for all web browsing with NoScript Plugin to block any potentially harmful scripts from websites.
    Hotspot Shield (Occasionally)
Spybot Search and Destroy (About once a week)
    Ad-Aware (About once a week)
Only the minimal amount of programs running in the Startup or Background, and useless services turned off.

Haven't had a single problem since I bought the laptop two years ago :rotfl:

I use on all computers in the house (xp):

    Bitdefender Antivirus 2009
    K9 Web Protection
Windows firewall and D-link DSL-2640B as a hardware firewall
  • Windows Vista Home premium
AVG 8.5 internet Security (Kaspersky Internet Security 8.0.0.506 next week)
    Windows Defender (Turned Off)
    Malware Bytes
    SpyBot search and destroy

Used Kaspersky trial and felt it was better than AVG.

AVG is brilliant as a freeware app but as a full package, ESET and kaspersky is far more superior. Didnt choose ESET smart security to buy as i find it a boring application (even if it is extremely fast). Kaspersky ticked the boxes i required.

Malware bytes i use now and then however, it is best on XP rather than vista as it is good at finding rogue antivirus/spyware apps such as XP antivirus2009 and the infamous pchealth.exe infection that displays a "VIRUS ALERT!" message is the system tray.

Spybot is not what it used to be but it is still a decent program that finds cr*p

Turn Windows Defender off because it is awful and eats RAM, your A.V should be sufficient

Only a basic summary, and i hope this helps

Anyone use/got an opinion about StopZilla? OH used it earlier. It found 60-odd bits of junk (mostly adware but a couple of alleged trojans) Didn't seem to identify them enough to look for them ourselves, then wanted registration/payment to remove them, but then offered itself free when OH tried to uninstall it (free trial I assume)...

Unsurprisingly, he then ran Ad-aware and Malwarebytes (after updating), which found nothing between them...

Had a little search for info. about it, but found nothing conclusive. Seems okay.. mixed reviews on cnet, can't find anything useful on Major Geeks. I'm steering clear of it, but just curious really..

    I currently use Avira.
Anyone any opinions on whether it is better/worse than Avast which is also usually recommended on other threads?
