I've been using Spybot160 for some time now and have noticed that I've been getting quite a lot of spam starting a few months ago.
Spybot updates seem to be generated from sites all over the world and once when I updated from a German source I got a load of spam in German. A couple of days ago I got rid of Spybot, and, lo and behold no spam at all. Has anybody had a similar problem?

    VERY intriguing!

The only update I use is 'SAFER NETWORKING 2', and never had any problems with that

Id guess theres more to it than that though. Id guess your infected with something

I'll give that a go and let you know.

Just out of interest do I need the p2p Shield and instant message part of avast running all the time? I don't use any of the programmes listed anyway, if I turn them off will they just come back once I re start my pc?

Avira has the better defintion files but does nt scan emails which avast does (But you can put the attachments on your desktop and scan them from there anyways)

ive just got rid of avg and install avira. From what alienrik says, it doesnt scan emails? is that in and outbound? What can i do to make sure i dont get anything via email?

ive now got: avira, windows firewall, firefox with no script, malwarebytes,SAS,sypbot with immunise, ccleaner.

The free version of Avira (Personal) doesn't scan your e-mails but the Premium and Premium Security Suite versions do. Have a look here for comparisons http://www.free-av.com/en/pages/6/comparative_chart.html
I've used the Premium version since May last year and have no regrets, though I may take advantage of the free Kaspersky software from Barclays this year.

If you want to be ultra safe ~ put any attachments you get onto your desktop then scan them from there

ok, since this is a money saving site, let save some bucks by visiting this site :

    https999://license.avira.999com/en/promotion-8821dtghledngvzkrrqr

(please remove the bolded 999, I used it as I can not post link as I am a new user :D)

and get your 183 days of Avira Premium Suite Genuine License for free.

BTW, it may not be as well known as Kaspersky or Norton but for sure it is a good security suite. and by the way this is my first post here :D
