A few people have recommended Kaspersky and I have found Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 for £18.79 for a 3 desktop 1 year subscription. We have 3 laptops in the house would this be OK or is it specifcally for desktops? Any advice would be appreciated.
Can you tell me where you found this price, as I'm looking for something similar? Thanks. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -

I use Ubuntu in a virtual PC on my XP box ;-)
I have also been worried about key loggers so copy and paste one of the security questions if I have to use windows, not sure that any malware logs the clipboard in that way...
I like Spybot
Malwarebytes
Avast
All free and pickup different things from each other0 -

I like all these too. I still haven't got around to trying to reinstall Ubuntu. I think an old version (Feisty Fawn?) still 'kind of' exists on my machine in a 'sort of' 'dead' way... but testdisk scares me so I keep putting off sorting it out.. My machine works nicely, and I'm happy with it, so I don't want to risk messing it up just yet...
Further to my other security, I use OpenDNS too. It filters web content, is anti-phishing, etc.. Your internet traffic goes through it - you use it's DNS servers instead of your ISP's.
I've recently added LinkExtend to my Firefox. It's like SiteAdvisor and WoT, but uses those and others to produce it's results.
I've also got KnujOn on Thunderbird, which makes me feel like I'm helping a little in the fight against spammers. It basically sends (at your request) all your junk mail to them (@coldrain.net) and they send it on to the likes of SEC, FDA, CastleCops*, PIRT, MS, et al... (all these acronyms come up on google)
*Sadly, CastleCops was 'beaten to death by hackers', but it's malware databases had been moved to Systemlookup.com before it's 'murder', thankfully.

Thanks aliEnRIK for the advice on security, I have just done my new laptop, following your instructions. I got there eventually, bit of a computer numpty really, hence my next questions
a- how do I change where I download stuff to? and
b- when I've installed a programme such as Avira, can I then delete the download?
As I said, computer numpty!!:pWon Mulberry Bag Jan 090 -

Hi all,
Decided to get rid of avg as I have just installed 8.5 and my pc seems to be really slow. Had a look round on the net and it seems that avast is pretty good. I now have this installed and wondered if there was a better free alternative to zone alarm which i am currently using.
Thanks0 -
Dave ~ If zonealarm works fine then I wouldnt worry about it.
Use the 32 bit AVG removal tool though (Simply uninstalling wont do)
