Dont need to since I dont use it, avast doesn't need any of that. Plus you get faster updates.

Ariva and Train, obviously much too subtle for some.

But Avira has the far better definition files

and how often it updates has nothing to do with it

eg ~ lets say Avira updates daily with 200 extra definitions
and Avast updates every hour with 1 extra definition.............

If I based my choice of security solely on definition databases I'd rather have 1 update every hour than one big update every day. However we both know definitions aren't what's important its detection of whats in the wild thats not in the definitions. Besides which security firm share their definitions with each other so what ever security you use you aint out of date too long, depending on the speed of their updates.

Either way I would use Avira but dont because of the nagware, avast is close enough to avira for it not to matter.

Maybe too subtle for humour too.:T It also helps if you've ever heard of arriva trains since they just do buses where I live.

    Don't have either 'round here.

    This site ~
    http://www.av-comparatives.org/
will shed a bit more light on Avast v AVira (And loads of others)

Basic windows viruses (Of which both free versions have)
    Avast ~ 55%
    Avira ~ 91%

The site throws the latest (At the time) nasties at the various av systems to see how well they do
Not too well in Avasts case..........(Though still far better than some others)

Also helps if you know you've made the spelling mistake, dyslexia doesn't help but then I've never paid much attention to spelling in forums or the pointing of it out.

I understand what you're saying but avast free is more like the pro version than avira is its equivalent. Besides which I'm not arguing with you, I would use avira over avast but I dont like the nagware.
