    My security is
    Comodo Firewall with Safe Surf
    AVG Anti Virus
    Comodo System Cleaner
    CCleaner
    Spybot
    Advanced System Care

Use Firefox3 to browse with add ons: Adblock Plus, Flashblock, Avg SafeSearch, Flagfox, WOT plus many others but these for security mostly.

If downloading any of the above programs I advise using https://www.filehippo.com

Personally I prefer Eset Smart Security over Kaspersky, seems to work better on my machine. I think Eset is particularly good for older machines as it uses less resources, although i've heard that the new Kaspersky 2009 is less of a memory hog. I also run regular scans with MalwareBytes (thanks to recommendations of people on this forum, especially the likes of aliEnRIK).

Kaspersky id give a 8.5 (No av is perfect)

Theres no harm in running Malwarebytes and Superantispyware as a double check mind (They do tend to lean more towards Spyware as Kaspersky is more into Viruses and Trojans)

If you want to be REALLY careful, use FIREFOX with the NOSCRIPT plugin for general net usage

    Download FIREFOX
    http://www.mozilla-europe.org/en/firefox/

    NOSCRIPT
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/722

NOSCRIPT works by blocking ALL website scripts (Which is how dodgy websites infect your computer ~ the easiest way to catch a virus after downloading). So you need to UNLOCK all websites you use for them to work properly (Like this one for example)
I personally set it so that it DOESNT show messages about blocked scripts. Then all you need to do is use common sense. Think to yourself 'does the site work ok'? If so it doesnt need touching. But if you wanted to watch a video on youtube say, youd need to unlock parts of it. Look bottom right, If theres ANY red on the 'S' symbol, then something is being blocked.

(You will also need the other addons like FLASH etc)

    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/browse/type:7

I might give NoScript another try, since I've seen it recommended a few times now. I tried it before and it drove me nuts, but maybe it deserves another chance..

You rate google toolbar do you Rik? I tend to avoid any toolbars.. I vaguely remember reading something about google 'spying' on you whilst browsing, and I seem to recall reading bad things about the Crawler toolbar (which I think comes with CCleaner unless you deselect it when installing..?). I'm happy with the way my browser - and computer, since I must've built it about... 5 years ago now... - works, so I try to avoid extras..
  • Hi again Rik.

How do you rate Eset? Just got it yesterday as kaspersky would not work properly on my system and took it back and got Eset as it's been mentioned a few times on here.

They collect 'usage' statistics. Nothing that concerns me anyways

CCLEANER comes with the yahoo toolbar (Simple case of unticking it before installing)

Ahh yes, Yahoo!.. I was thinking that my OH had got Crawler from Ccleaner, but just remembered it came from Spyware Terminator (which I think I installed come to think of it, not OH :p). Knew there was something that I didn't like about ST.
I like Yahoo, but I don't feel the need for any toolbars atm so I'll give them all a miss.

I will try NoScript again though.

    Thanks :)
