I used to use AVG but my hard drive crashed due to a virus that AVG didn't pick up so I had re-format and re-install so I'm not a happy bunny. I now just run Sunbel Firewall and Vipre antivirus and anti spyware. You don't get nothing for nothing:mad:
Not bein funny hansi ~ but Vipre is worse than AVG
Id suggest uninstalling and using AVIRA instead
I agree AVG is cr*p too mind
Sunbelts good 'when it runs ok'. Mine kept effecting webpages randomly so I use PCTOOLS firewall now:idea:0 -

I use PCTools Firewall, which is free. Avast which is free, and Superantispyware free also. On top of that I use winpatrol. Every bit of software on my computer I got for nothing.0 -
I used Avira for some time last year and that didn't pick up a virus either, so none of them are perfect!0

Kaspersky for me.
Very effective and seems to have minimal resource usage!0 -

Now I am confused
If you want an 'all in one' buy Kaspersky
If you want free ones, you need quite a few
Personally I use ~
PCTOOLS FIREWALL
AVIRA (Main av)
Malwarebytes (scan on demand)
Superantispyware (Scan on demand)
Spybot (Including its IMMUNISE feature) ~ (scan on demand):idea:0 -
I'll echo Rik above except I use Avast as my main AV and I don't rate Spybot. I use winpatrol and threatfire as well. Its down to what you're comfortable with.
PS I never directly pay for software, I dont believe in it.0 -
So if I get Kaspersky that would be ok by the sound of it. On a scale of 1-10 how good is it? Also can you also then run other free ones to check its working correctly?:oCurrent Debt £38,000:o

Kaspersky id give a 8.5 (No av is perfect)
Theres no harm in running Malwarebytes and Superantispyware as a double check mind (They do tend to lean more towards Spyware as Kaspersky is more into Viruses and Trojans)
If you want to be REALLY careful, use FIREFOX with the NOSCRIPT plugin for general net usage
Download FIREFOX
http://www.mozilla-europe.org/en/firefox/
NOSCRIPT
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/722
NOSCRIPT works by blocking ALL website scripts (Which is how dodgy websites infect your computer ~ the easiest way to catch a virus after downloading). So you need to UNLOCK all websites you use for them to work properly (Like this one for example)
I personally set it so that it DOESNT show messages about blocked scripts. Then all you need to do is use common sense. Think to yourself 'does the site work ok'? If so it doesnt need touching. But if you wanted to watch a video on youtube say, youd need to unlock parts of it. Look bottom right, If theres ANY red on the 'S' symbol, then something is being blocked.
(You will also need the other addons like FLASH etc)
