Every time I download a file from the Internet, I use the following URL to make sure it is not malicious. The online scanner uses 20 different anti-virus scanners and is great for small files. Some caution is required when uploading: make sure no sensitive/confidential files are uploaded as the site takes a copy to enable them to scan the file.

Hope this helps someone :-)0 -
I use Avria free antiv virus, Spybot with Immuzine feature, CCcleaner, Malwarebytes and Windows XP firewall and Firefox 3. Was thinking of trying out the Eset Smart Secuirty trail that keeps getting highly recommended on this thread.0

You should be using a better firewall than the Windows one0
-
I know will get one installed0

Think I will replace Sunbelt Firewall and Avast AntiVirus with PC Tools Firewall and Avira AntiVirus.
Is this a good choice or should I just stick with my current option, also does Avira always show up an advert when it updates?0 -
Avast is good so is PCTools Firewall mind and install Threatfire Ariva always shows the nag screen.0

Disable nag screen:

There are solutions to get rid of the splash screen, but these involve the registry.
I dont want to be responsible for c*ckups, let Google be your friend.Move along, nothing to see.0 -
I might just leave Avast and replace Sunbelt Firewall with the PC Tools Firewall.0

I don't use any security software except norton antivirus
hardware level : router firewall turned on
windows XP software : host file redirection, disabled IE third party cookies (hell with quidco - it sucks anyway), activex protection in IE settings (AUTO PERMISSION TO RUN, BUT REST MANUAL), and of course checking win xp for updates daily (manually - i dont like windows security centre)
linux : cant be bothered0 -
Couldn't you TRAIN it not to? :rotfl:
