What Security do you use?

Its a bit patronising if you ask me. A bit like windows advantage. There was no advantage to the user just more hassle.
Why can't M$ get off their backsides and do something worth while, like having the user create a user account that doesn't have root/adminstrator privileges from the start. Then ask for a password when you need root access to do something, like the way linux does it. Whats stupid is letting novice computer users log into a root/administrator account in the first place. The UAC doesn't make up for this.
But I'll rephrase; The UAC is there to allow stupid people to use their computers more safely in the hope that they dont just click it anyway not having a clue really what they're doing.0 -
I have just upgraded to a Cisco ASA 5505, moved my outward facing servers to a DMZ with limited translations. I've also started using ClamAV and SpamAssassin for mail filtering duties, DansGuardian for sanitaising my web access and Trend Micro AV for my Windows / Linux boxes.

The firewall on my router doesn't slow anything down, neither does the firewall on my ubuntu box. If the OS is inherently secure you dont really need anything but a firewall.charlieheard wrote: »That's what they suggest you do, but most people are either too lazy to do so or aren't savvy enough to understand that they need to. This protects those people. And using a non-admin account would be exactly the same as UAC, except that you'd need to type in a password every time, as well. Where's the benefit?
They suggest you do, really? Why is it when you run windoze for the first time the main option is to create an admin account? With a side option no one really knows about for creating an non admin account. No warnings.
Under a non admin account windoze becomes unusable, M$ need to take a leaf out of linux's book, their non root account is much better.
The benfit is obvious, if you get a virus it only effects that user acount settings and not the whole computer because the virus doesn't have the admin rights. You get a virus in an admin account with UAC it still has admin rights.
Most people view this second warning as a pain and just click it away, having to put a password in lets you know you're doing something that effects the whole computer.charlieheard wrote: »Now that's patronising! It's there to make highly intelligent people like my wife, brother, mother-in-law safer surfers, even though they don't understand the risks associated with malware.
Theres no cure for stupidity, even with UAC. If it was actually any good vista wouldn't have virus's, the majority of infections are down to the user, fact.0 -
I've moved across to Comodo firewall and antivirus all in one along with spybot and adaware.0

I quite like the idea of using a router as a firewall, you only need the anti virus stuff then0
