MG, If it's a shared gable end I would expect it to be a shared responsibility. The extent of the repair will depend on how well adhered the rest of the harling render is, but if it's any consolation I had some patches done last year and got a man who did small jobs and patched it in really well. He had to make one bare patch bigger to get to sound edges, but didn't make a meal of it IYSWIM.
Just beware of someone sucking in their cheeks and telling you it's a big job - maybe your pub builders/joiners will know someone who can give you an honest opinion. If scaffolding is needed, that can cost.
This is the worst of living in a harsh climate - the buildings do weather somewhat. It's blowing another hoolie here, I am glad to be in for the night! If you have a talent, use it in every which way possible. Don't hoard it. Don't dole it out like a miser. Spend it lavishly like a millionaire intent on going broke.

Found my copy of the Title Deeds - remember that challenge we had about filing our paperwork?? Love it when a plan comes together.:p
Whizzed it over to the solicitors (to get a plain English translation) and responsibility is indeed shared between us all. So I have phoned my insurance company and given them the names and info of the other peeps and shall leave it in their hands. No longer my issue IYSWIM. Which leaves me time to salt away the excess.
The other people in the block are fine - but downstairs are now on the warpath as they are adamant it is not down to them too. Well Title says differently and if they want to hold up the whole process so be it. Leaves me more time to save up for the exess IYSWIM (do you see a theme emerging)
Council says if neighbours raise a complaint they can cordon off the area with yellow tape - but really not down to them either.
So in the words of any Dragon of your choice "I am out"
But I do have two jars of ruby grapefruit marmalade made in the pressure cooker :j:j Small things make me happy.

Fabby old day at panto with class - love panto, although snow white was a bit of a stress bunny but they did make her sing very high! Then grrr when back at work cos boss is asking for paperwork for auit that he doesn't need but he is a worry wart. Have been proactive and come home, found relevant info saying we don't need the paperwork he is demanding, and have emailed to school ready for his perusal tomorrow. I am refusing to say 'how high' when he says jump atm since he is amongst the laziest people I know.

Hey Everyone
Well good feedback on my second draft chapter - yipppeeee! Got my presentation sent off, it's not great but it's done and it's in - and that's all that I care about.
No more deadlines until January!!! Great, as I am about ready to drop. Hoping for a few days pottering this week and some fun next week.
Hugs to all - sorry to hear about your house MG. I think you have handled it perfectly.:A :heartpuls June 2014 / £2014 in 2014 / £735.97 / 36.5%0 -
Good evening Matrix!
Sorry to hear you have had building damage MG - not surprising though, given the strength of the wind at the moment. I was nearly blown off my feet at lunch time, and that is pretty hard to do for 19 stone something!!
So, developments re the disciplinary. You know that I have someone to accompany me? Well, the first person dropped out and I had to scrabble about to find someone else... and through a good mate I have found someone I know slightly, from the Law School, to come in and help. He is a great person and a fantastic lawyer. Plus he is very calm and reassuring. I have never had any meetings or anything with him, so they can't claim that I am getting favouritism or anything, seeing as the Law School is my area of responsibility. I also saw the Employment Lawyer today. He reckons that my boss is completely within her right to insist on now Internet access during the working day, so he thinks I will get a written warning. I, on the other hand, feel that it is patently ridiculous to hold me to a higher standard than anywhere else across the University. He said that was persuasive argument! In fact, he was very impressed with my argument entirely and by the end of our meeting said it could either way. He also gave me some excellent advice re collecting evidence for constructive dismissal, and said that if that happened he would be happy to represent me. Result!
The main thing I am totally impressed with though is that I have not had a massive binge. Usually, if I was under this kind of stress, I would have been at the bottom of tubes of icky pringles and a pile of horrid sweets. However, I have just had a sensible dinner of mushroom soup and antipasti that I got in the whoopsie corner of the supermarket. And I feel fine with that! I cannot tell you how huge a step this is for me.
Right... off to have a lovely evening by myself as hubby is at his work Christmas do. Plan to snuggle up on the sofa with a nice big hot chocolate and a book. There is an outside chance of some knitting going on as well, but I suspect the book will catch me. I might get a cuddle from the kittens too! Depends how they are feeling!!

I'm glad you have someone strong to help fight your corner Crickett, sounds positive.
MG, your fight regarding responsibility is one I'm going to be picking up very soon. Just got the first bill for our management company and we're refusing to pay it, as are our neighbours, until they meet their side of the contract - going to speak to solicitor on Friday to make sure that we keep the right side of the law but I think this could get complicated. No longer using this account for new posts from 20130 -
