I need some advice Matrix. OH has been back at work for a week after being off for a month having had piles removed (poor thing he's only 29) and as he works in a call centre he's been struggling. His work only informed him after he went back to work that he could only change his shifts from 8-10 hour ones to shorter ones if he had a doctors note so he survived a few days (where the shifts were long than the doctors opening hours) but managed to get a doctors note yesterday which just said he should work better hours.

He has a 10 hour shift tomorrow but his work have said they won't discuss the doctors note until his welfare meeting tomorrow (he's had a few periods of illness leading up to the operation all to do with this and one migraine whilst at work where I had to go collect him) and they're blaming him for not having this in place before he came back to work but he didn't even know reduced shifts were an option, he's take an extra week hoping that would help but when you're not working you don't know how hard it can be.

So I need advice on where he stands on his rights. If someone could point me in the right direction of some health and safety in the work place on rules for returning to work and fit to work notes so I can give him some ammo when he goes in tomorrow. His work do not care at all about the employees as they know in this market they can replace them very easily.

Fallenwiccan I can't help that much but I do know it is very much company-specific as to the rules. Does he have a contract or peoples handbook he can look at? My company have all their rules and regulations on the intranet.

Fallenwiccan - try ACAS, I've always found them great for employment law advice and when it's law or contract

Just serve him up the naan bread - get him trained early :D

Cook yourself something like a veggie curry or a bean curry and leave him to fill up on the bread. If there is no money he has lost the right to be fussy - Hello reality!! I am afraid.

You won't be skint forever - but during this time I'm afraid he has to put up or shut up doesn't he? ................ or HE needs to come up with a solution. You can put a meal on the table - if its not up to his standards then tough kitties.

My Mum has just arrived - she says give him a bowl of porridge - sheesh!!! and y0u think I am tough:rotfl:

We don't have any porridge either :rotfl:

Do harricot beans make a good curry base? They are all we have except baked beans.

Well tomorrow is quite a big day. I found out by accident that a meeting of all the people who make decisions about those of us who do the work is scheduled for tomorrow - when they will discuss amongst other things what where when and how my job will change. I havent been told that the job will come to an end and have kept all minutes of meetings and emails that say 'dont worry your job will still exist', but I trust none of them:mad:

Maybe a restless night ahead. Off to yoga now to try and relax:)

Fallenwiccan - if his fit note says he is fit to work with adaptations/amended duties, then he is NOT fit to work without them. The NHS website has a whole section on fit notes which I sent my american boss when I had mine issued... His choice was give me the amended duties or have me off sick indefinitely :)

Survived the presentations but my voice isn't happy. Another long session tomorrow, so will need the holiday I've got booked for the next couple of weeks! Current hotel is not making myself or my colleague happy. It isn't a business hotel. It would be fine if we were on holiday, but flaky wireless, pool closed outside working hours, aircon not working etc aren't good. We have a lot of work to do, and now won't be able to do it very easily... And a swim or walk are something we need to help have a break after a flight. Anyway, I'll stop moaning and have a trundle round the boards and a glass of wine before heading for bed!

Although no one can go back and make a brand new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending.... life is a WIP.

Aaaargh health and safety course this morning and a cd-rom full of follow up work (thanks boss) followed by a faffy afternoon. Did manage to get all the stuff in for my classes Jubilee work - designing an outfit and hat for the queen (lifesize) and then making queen's hat biccies (rich tea with marshmallow stuck on with melted choc, then decorated) so a couple of lovely days for my lovely class.

Off to work out how to make a waistcoat with some patriotic coloured material ready for the party on Friday

    Hello peeps

Been skiving - actually I kidnapped the kids, my Mum and the dog and took them to the beach for the afternoon - which ended up being well into the evening.

In fact DS2 is in bed - unshowered but in jammies cos he was sound asleep by the time we got home. Don't worry he will be showered in the morning and his bedding cleaned right through but I hadn't the heart to wake him up when he was asleep so soundly.

DS1 is lying with his head on my lap whilst occasionally piping up about what a perfect day he has had - whipped away from school and onto the beach within twenty minutes. Not a bad day after all.

Now off to catch up and turn some of my scribbled notes into coherent text.

Gemmzie - I hope dinner went smoothly. I did chuckle at the stern (but correct) replies from MG & Greenbee.

Horace - I am so pleased your house move is imminent. At least you can now start preparing. When the other house sells, I too will be doing an FB and group text shout out for help from friends!

How scary waking up to an earthquake, Greenbee! I'm glad you were ok and that your family are unaffected too Firewalker. I always remember being awoken by a tremor here when I was pregnant with my 9 year old. I remember waking the ex-OH up as I thought someone had broken in and was crashing around downstairs. It wasn't until I saw the news the following morning that I realised what had happened.

Igamogam - all the changes are stressful. I hope you are able to relax tonight. As frustrating as it is, you can't do anything, until they make their decisions and announcements.

For my sins I was down and out with a tummy upset today. I've managed a piece of toast not long ago, so fingers crossed. Luckily some friends were able to take the boys to school / nursery this morning, so I could sleep, sleep and sleep a bit more!! :D
One step at a time ;)
