Hello there Matrix! Had a really busy day today doing lots and lots of housework and chores that have been on my list for AGES but I had not got round to them. I have done so much, I am really proud of myself. I went through all of my clothes, both summer and winter, and I have whittled down my clothes to those items which I will definitely wear and enjoy wearing. It is not a capsule wardrobe, but it does feel more manageable to have everything hanging up in the wardrobe and not divided and stored in the loft. I have 4 bags of clothes put to one side so that my Mum can go through them and decide if she wants to take any of them home with her. Hand me ups! :) And that is without going through what I have lurking in the ironing!! :D

I also did a tonne of cleaning today. I have to do the bathroom tomorrow and then clean through our bedroom (which Mum and Dad are going to use) and then I think, barring a quick spin around the place with the hoover, changing the sheets on the bed and swiping the bathrooms down... I am ready for the onslaught! I am quite looking forward to it, and Lara, I completely get what you say... and I will try to be cool and collected about things. It is hard though. Dad is THE most awkward, curmudgeonly old git I have ever come across... so I know what to expect! :( Still... I shall envision a calm and relaxing visit, and who knows, it might happen!

Plans for tomorrow are to go to Church and do my regular solo, come home via the DIY shop for some no-more-nails so I can stick up my mosaic house number which I finished off today, get something yummy for dinner tomorrow and then cook it for my hubby who worked today and will be working tomorrow as well. :( And the afternoon is cleaning up, and then I might hit the ironing. I understand from the forecast that next week might actually warm up, so I can spend some time in the garden! YAY! :D

Have a great day tomorrow everyone. Lots of positive vibes to you all.

We know 2 people carrying torch - looking at the list of people who are carrying it around our part of the country there seems to be a healthy helping of individuals who appear not to live here at all - thought that was a bit odd:cool:

yep looked at mine and there are people from York, and other areas coming to run with the Torch through our town... bit of a long journey for them... only one local person will be running with it. And reading about her she wholeheartedly deserves too.

Having a ponder about all things money whilst cleaning the kitchen floor.

Last year's ISA (Sa****der) is sitting there doing nothing - only a few hundred quid, so I am thinking of cashing it in and transferring it against the mortgage. It will save me more than it will make this year.

Haven't opened an ISA yet this year as I can save more paying money off against mortgage than they were offering in interest - so I can't transfer IYSWIM?

Would be another few leaves off my mortgage tree after all.

    Off to check my numbers

Olympics football is at Manchester United (hate football - like watching paint dry compared to the greatest game Rugby League!) so will be giving it a miss! Have got a tv so will watch some bits of Olympics but am not wound up to fever pitch just yet:p

Another one looking at budgets today, really hard working out where we are cos dh gets paid 4 weekly, and I get paid on 22nd, and most bills go out on 1st of month - working in cash has helped as we only have to deal with one week at a time, but still need to make sure there is enough in the account sat waiting for direct debits. Then need to see how much we have available to shuffle to cc debt.

I divide all my bills by 52, then every Monday I transfer the "bills" amount to the account where all the DD's go into - leaving them to come out "monthly"

Could you set aside the proportion of OH income for bills and set it aside and then do the same with you monthly when you get paid.

What this means for me is that anything "left" in my account after the weekly shuffle is what I need to see us through for the week for food, petrol, mortgage overpayment(or debts) and spendies.

The game is then to see how little I can live on for the week to enable me to transfer as much as possible into the mortgage account every Sunday.

I found "monthly" didn't work with my mindset - whereas on a weekly basis I know that if I overspend I am only out of money for a few days before the next cycle starts again.

Must go - beepers beeped - cheese scones are ready

You are right on this one - ISAs are not as good as they are primed to be particualrly at the current interest rates. Put is all agains the mortgage - particularly given that you have access to it. But then you have an emergency fund, don't you:j?

But are ISAs better than pensions? There is certainly some evidence to suggest that they are (stocks and shares ISAs, not cash ones obviously).

Still battling the garden (well I'm on a break now... ) need to put the washing out and work out what to do next to make progress in the battle. Shifting rubble maybe...

Am headed to Sofia tomorrow and have half a day free, so any suggestions (FW??) would be appreciated. The weather there, and in greece and cyprus is hot, so I don't want to waste time shut in my hotel room!

Would need another account setting up tbh. At the moment I have worked out our monthly disposable income and divided it by 5 - so we have a five week month to tide us over. I know a lot of months have four weeks but the five week mentality means we have a buffer for childcare costs which can go from £0 to £120 week by week as dh's hours can be so varied. Just need to keep an eye on stuff - but might do the account thing in summer hols when I can concentrate more.

Do you think 92 packs of the sweeties will be enough? I'm hoping they'll guarantee I don't need them...

Also got organic porridge oats, vanilla powder, vanilla pods, orchid food, loo paper, crackers, squash, tonic water and a few other bits. £47 delivered for £130-worth of stuff. I had planned on running down stocks, but can't survive without the throat sweets right now, and am completely out of porridge oats (rye flakes on their own are NOT the same thing at all...)
