Lara - my house is in complete chaos... The spare room is beautifully painted but empty as the floor is being varnished, the bedroom as furniture in it, but the pictures/shelves/blind/curtains aren't up and the wardrobe is full of junk from the spare room. I can't actually get into the study (well I did, as I had to get my SIL's birthday present out of there this morning, but it was a struggle) and the landing is also covered in junk. The hall is full of the stuff I unpacked from the car on Monday, the new curtains are packed up in the sitting room (where I have been working for the last three weeks, and which is covered in ash and dust as I haven't been able to clean), and all the other curtains are piled up in the kitchen!

So no photos for a long time...

my cousin brought his son with him this morning while he varnished the floor, so I've had an hour of babysitting. Poor little thing has conjunctivitis and is very clingy so wasn't entirely happy at being abandoned with me. He was very good though. Off to see my SIL this afternoon for her birthday, so will see my niece and nephew briefly too.

Been to see bank person and he was very positive about our remortgaging but all hangs on the dratted valuation (which could be anything from the different websites I have looked at) We are overpaying to bring down capital but this is going to be a long term thing methinks. At least we will get a free valuation and a better idea of where we actually stand as we attck the mortgage from now on:)

And even more positively dh gets paid tomorrow and we still have a smidgen of money left in the account - :j
    Mortgage £119,533 going down slowly
    Emergency fund £1000/£1000
    Savings for big things £9017

Aaaarrrrgggghhhhh - I want to hand in my notice and I want to do it NOW!! Only thing holding me back is the knowledge that I need to pay my rent next month.

In my heart I feel that it is the right thing to do and that I should trust the universe that everything will turn ok. But in my head I can't do that kind of leap.

I wish I had been in the financial position to build up few month's buffer for situation like this but hey ho haven't been able to do that.

  • Oh, Marru... I am so sorry you feel that way! I wish I could help.

Have you considered contracting? When I was doing temp work, I only had 2 weeks of no pay in 3.5 years. Hays Accountancy are excellent, as are Macildowie and Reed.

I know I am lucky to have been able to do what you want to do... I am sending you lots and lots of positive vibes.

  • As are Robert Half and Micheal Page.

I got my last 2 jobs with RH :)
  • TMIF - Hays have always done well by me; and i have just had Macildowie on the phone! :D But I concur re Robert Half and Micheal Page! Very good agents.

You can do it Marru!! :D

Have you got a new job?
  • Not yet TMIF, but I am in no rush! I have a contract sorted out for June, and that is probably the first time I will consider going back to the rat race. And to be honest, I might wait even longer. We'll see how we go...!

  • Oh, can I confess to being a little bit jealous!!! I'd love to not work at the moment!
  • If it is any consolation (and I appreciate it probably won't be!) I know I am very lucky to be in this position. Mind you, I think I am probably working harder than I ever have before doing all the housework and cooking and walking the dog and all that stuff. I am knackered most of the time!! :D
