Thank you all for your comments and advise. I have actually gone and done it. And I was so right to do it. I am feeling miles better and happier. I am confident something will come up just on time. Actually there is a possible interview coming for my ideal job. I am feeling very positive about it."Everything will be alright in the end. If it's not alright, it's not the end."

Congratulatiions Marru, you've taken a big leap of faith, and yes the future may be slightly uncertain, but at least you will sleep better tonight knowing you have made your decision and are glad about it. I am on the verge of doing the same, but before I pack in my job, I am taking a month or so off to explore other revenue streams. Then I will decide.

Congratulations Marru! I am so glad you have taken this step. If you think it is the best thing for you, then it probably is. And don't pay any attention to the nay-sayers, be they external to you, or your own internal commentary. (I know, I can really talk after the wobble this morning!!
)
Let me know if you need anyone to bounce any ideas off. Or, even, send me a PM with what you are looking for and whereabouts and let me see if I can find you something (seeing as I am sitting at home and surfing these kind of sites anyway!!)
I had a lovely time in Snottingham this afternoon. It cost me £4.80 for two coffees, and I had a great time. It was so nice to chat to my chum and it was absolutely lovely. When I got on the tram to go back to my car, who should be on the tram as well, but my old boss. She clocked me... and totally blanked me. So I guess she has a guilty conscience then!
In other news... I have done a whole menu from stuff in the freezer and the cupboards following a massive stocktake last night! The shopping list has about 12 items on it and that is all! Yay!Operation Frugal Crickett is starting really well!
Okey Dokey - got dishes to do and then I might go to bed. I am SHATTERED! See you tomorrow."A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort"Herm Albright 1876-19440 -
What's your notice period Marru? And will they put you on gardening leave or will you be working it? To be fair, they probably won't expect you to be working particularly hard once you've quit ;-) but it does give you some time to get yourself sorted out.
I'm shattered too... just trying to summon up the energy to drag myself upstairs to bed.
Good news though - the spare room is finishedSo we can get the curtain pole up and start thinking about furniture. I want to finish sorting the bedroom out this weekend, and give the study a good clean so I can start working in there again. The landing is being done next, then upstairs will be done.
I'm after inspiration for the stairs. They are painted white (satinwood we think) down the edges and are plain wood in the middle where there must once have been a runner. I don't want carpet (hate the stuff) so need to work out what to do. Upstairs has whitewashed floorboards, downstairs is bamboo. The landing, stairwell and hall are painted yellow, with white woodwork. Should we paint solid white all the way across? We don't really want to sand the satinwood as it'll be horribly dustyOr should we put a yellow wash down the middle? (We can put salt in the varnish to make it non-slip like they do on boats) Or should we do something else interesting?
Fire is nearly out, so I guess I'd better head off to bed. So pleased to see so much good news!0 -
I love the sound of putting salt into the varnish Greenbee! It sounds excellent... but I will say that I am totally USELESS at DIY, so please do not take any notice of my opinion!
I am really tired... I might go upstairs to bed.
We had take away tonight. Hubby had pizza. Baaaad hubby!!Where we go for our pizza, they also do takeaway salads. I had grilled salmon and a fruit salad. I swear, my halo is shining so bright you could see your way in the dark with it!!
But it was bad of us to get food from outside, when we have so much food in this house. This frugal thing is going to take some doing!! Real change of attitude required from both of us."A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort"Herm Albright 1876-19440 -
OMG!
My hubby has just come home with Dotty from her evening walk to tell me that she had been attacked by two large lurcher like dogs! They grabbed her back leg and her tail and hubby had to put himself between the dogs and Dotty. The owner of these dogs was nowhere to be seen, and Hubby spent a good few minutes fighting them off! When the owner did finally turn up he got his dogs and hauled them off before Hubby could get a) a good look at him and b) tear him a new one. I have checked her over thoroughly, and I don't think she is bleeding now (though she was when she came back from her walk) and I have wiped the wound with antiseptic (much to Dotty's upset!) and will be keeping a very close eye on her! Poor Dotty! Bloody people who don't control their dogs!!:mad::mad::mad::mad:"A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort"Herm Albright 1876-19440 -
poor Dotty Crickett, and your poor husband having to get in the way!
grr to dog owners who let their dogs run off and are nowhere near them.
I see this regularly in the park where I take DS, and regularly comment on this bad practice, they take no notice.
Last time there was a husky dog that started chasing a smaller dog, it's owner was on this side of the little stream, and the dog on the other side way up the park! the owner was calling and calling but by the time she got there, and took control, the smaller dog's owners had to step in and block the husky!0 -
Grrr, I have a temp PT job in my office at the moment - and no one turned up for the interview yesterday!!!! Why?
Does anyone want a nice admin job, 18 hrs a week, in Plymouth for the next 4 months... PLEEEEEEEEEEEEASE, I can't do two jobs!0 -
TMIF... that is unbelievable!! I would have thought people would be beating down the door for jobs... any jobs! It's insane!! If I was closer, I would step in to help. But the commute would kill me!! On the upside... Dotty could play at the seaside!!
Thank you all for your comments. I think the best way to describe the crickett household today is bloodied but unbowed. Dotty seems pretty normal... she scarfed her breakfast down in no time flat... she did very well on her walk, though she was nervous. Very nervous. The wound on her leg isn't bleeding or oozing or anything, so I am not going to go to the vet yet. We are obviously going to watch things carefully though.
I think we need to have a quiet day rather than a rambunctious one! I have the shopping to do and then I need to go and do technical support for my Father in law. Hopefully Dotty will be able to have a sleep and recover. And then when I am at home I have cleaning and tidying to do.
Tomorrow I have a lovely day planned with my best friend. We are having a girly day, and I can't wait!!"A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort"Herm Albright 1876-19440 -
Marru, glad you made your decision and did the right thing for you.
Crickett, what happened to Dotty is my worst nightmare when I am out with our dog. Hope she recovers ok. By the way I think she may have come by close by me, in South Yorkshire? looking at the website pictures.
Hugs Aesop, hope things improve soon
TMIF I am shocked at this. It is just what I am looking for but think the 6 hour each way commute might be an issue.:rotfl:
Getting back into the routine after a lovely holiday. Going to start some planting started ready for the windowsill today, so that our plan to have veg through the summer has a chance of succeeding.
Have a good weekend everyone0
