Oh snow, I can't believe it MG!!! Have a great holiday anyway.

This weekend was a bit weird. It seemed I was the April fool on Saturday, as a traipsed the whole way into town for my friend's birthday dinner, only to find out it's next week!!! Then treated myself to an M&S dine in for two. Except I put the blimmin potatoes in the oven in their plastic dish, and the whole thing melted

Sunday I was fit for nothing so spent the whole evening on the sofa with my duvet watching about 15 Ugly Betty episodes.

Having a bit of a down moment in life I reckon. Got to find a way to be a bit less stressed. It's always like this at the start of a chapter. You'd think I would get used to it! Anyway, I'm off to start work and get some more bits done. That's the only way I start to feel better.

Got volunteering later and they've started me on some work that is way out of my comfort zone. Hmm not sure how to ask for help.

    Nice day ladies!!!

Hopeful - that is fab news, so hoping that family are in it for the long haul with your lovely house.

I did find out that Dotty is not keen on the hoover. She was torn between running at it to protect me and running away and hiding :A :D

    :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

    Bless!

I know I don't really know you but you sound sooooooooo much happier and relaxed since you left work and Dotty arrived - long may it continue!

My DH is the same at work re stress and my working hours were cut at the end of Jan but it has worked out really well because, like you, I try and take care of everything at home so he can relax when he gets home. HOWEVER his method of destressing is hoovering!!!!!! :T:T so its all good - but I guess Dotty wouldn't approve!

Lara, you never get used to it. There is a simple reason - the uncertainty of the creative process and the stress that it brings with it (uncertainty of outcome; fear of loosing it all and the fear of loosing face and ridicule). Everybody who creates experiences the same issues.

I get really worked up till I really know what I am writing - have an elegant argument and structure. After that I can't wait to get to wrtiting - it is only the obssesion that is left. Not sure which one my family prefer - me being subdued or talking about stuff they have no interest in all the time :rotfl:.

Haha Firewalker! Structure is my nemesis at the moment. I am hoping it will come with practice or what my OH likes to call "brute force learning"(!)

I hope you're feeling a lot better too. Hope you're planning something nice for over the holidays.

Glad you're enjoying your time off Crickett. Dotty sounds so lovely.

Interesting day yesterday as Amazon Easter bunny brought me a Mindstore book Have told the Easter bunny that only want an ickle bit of dark choccyso have saved him some £ and me some lbs) - so while recovering from lurgy I sat and read it all! Went to shop in the afternoon feeling all positive and reaffirmed and with an I can do this attitude and lovely shop assistant insisted we had 10 packs of disney cards instead of the 1 we'd officially earnt - so as far as dd is concerned the new positive approach is already a winner:p

Today is cleaning and scrubbing this morning, then making and baking this afternoon.

Not sure it is any help to you, but it is comforting to know that someone with your experience has the same difficulties.
Why does one always assume that others sail through and they are struggling because they are not capable of doing whatever it is?
  • I must confess, I had a bit of a wobble yesterday as I began to think whether I had been sensible to leave work. But I went to choir practice and the closer I got to Nottingham the more stressed I got. It was really weird. Anyway... I do feel better for having time at home and poddling around doing stuff. I am making my house a home, and that is a really important job.

Dotty is just wonderful! She has helped to make the house a home and has certainly helped my fitness! My jeans nearly fell off me this morning as I was walking her! :rotfl::j

Crafty, not sure how to answer your question - I tended to do the same though until I sat down and had a good read and think about the process of creation. Then I realised that it is only to be expected.

Lara, it is not a matter of learning - your learning is as good as you don't push the boundaries. Creation is unique by nature - so every time you write something you have to go through the discovery and creating elegance and order in material that defies you. Sorry, your partner is wrong - the kind of learning that deals away with the angst of creation leads to loads of boring, bog standard stuff being written and published.

There are ways to cope - note, I say 'cope' not deal away with - and these involve creating your own 'beehive' (this is finding a group of people who are creators and go through what you are goin through to share; this is why it is so important for Universties to set up Doctoral schools with opportunities for meaningful interaction) and routines. Most importantly one has to be aware and accept that this is part of the process; so do the ones around you.

SO true Craftyscholar! I am so guilty of this - all the time in fact.

Crickett, you were just right to leave your job. Life is about so much more than work. You can look for jobs if and when you choose on your own terms. And because you've been freed from a horrible atmosphere, you will find it so much easier to move forward.
