Fed up. Totally shattered but coughing is stopping me sleeping
Oh sorry you're still suffering, how frustrating. I think my youngest may have chicken pox. His skin is really bad at the moment with eczema, but he ended up in bed with me during the night. He kept waking and was scratching a lot. On closer inspection this morning he has a few blister spots. I'm going to be so popular at work. It's hard not having any extra help, but that's life!
How's everyone else feeling today?One step at a time0 -
Still shattered... Did eventually doze off around 1ish I think, but was woken up at 4am trying to cough up what felt like a marble covered in spikes
. Despite more painkillers and breakfast I think I feel worse now than I did yesterday morning. Made the mistake of reading the instructions for the anti-biotics... Most of the side effects listed are symptoms I had before I started them  . Apparently I should start feeling better soon. I hope all the people who keep telling me that are right...
Second batch of stock is now cooling. Hopefully it will be OK. Need to empty the DW this morning, and get the washing up done. I think that is quite ambitious enough for today!
Lovely clear, frosty day outside. Birds are singing, so at least it is nice to look out at. I'm just frustrated that I can't make any progress with the garden... Except plans!0 -
greenbee - at night do you put around your room soaking wet towels? Sounds mad I know but dry air irritates more so wet towels add humidity to the air and can help stop coughing.
Like wise Vicks vapour rub on the SOLES of your feet. Again madness I know. Slather it on and put on socks. Does help.
Then there is changes in temperature. Ive found this also affects coughing so if you can maintain your bedroom temp that might help.
Sadly these are not a cure but can help to ease the triggers. Hope you are back on your feet asap xxxI have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knifeLouise Brooks

Thanks Bitsy - that makes so much sense. It was dry and frosty last night. Being cooler did mean I avoided the weird dreams and waking up in a puddle though! Sounds like a steamy bath might be on the cards in a bit and I'll try to sort out something to help with humidity tonight (when we were children it was always an electric kettle with the lid off boiled in the room for 10 minutes every hour).
I have to say, I have no clue how I would have coped with this if I had kids - I'd have had to find some way to keep going I guess but right now I can't imagine how. I won't even let OH stay over as I don't want someone else having to listen to me cough until I start retching.
I also need to work out how I'm going to deal with sick leave, as I did do some work last week (and have the emails to prove it!), and as I have another hysteroscopy due in the summer, I can't afford to use up any more sick leave than I have to. I think I might have to pull something spectacular out of the hat to make sure my March paper is on time (it's currently in danger of being late), get all my travel booked (relatively easy) and then negotiate with my boss on number of days I need to take. I think he'll go with whatever is easiest for him from an admin perspective, and avoiding HR's attention outside appeals to him... Especially outside the US where he doesn't understand the rules.0 -
UP and putting another bottle of lemon and ginger cordial on as - Yup!!! yo guessed it, after a week of snotty kids I have woken up with aching joints and a scratchy throat.
But I have a piece of work that needs to be finished - so colouring pencils to the ready.
Also need to get DS1 "school ready" after he has has a week in bed -thankfully yesterday was a proper drying day and the washing basket is empty (mind you the ironing basket is full LOL)
At least I did some baking yesterday so they are happy - anyone got and mincemeat left over from Christmas? - if so pop n over, cos I made a delicious Mincemeat and Apple slice that is just to die for.
Better go make the most of my day - as I could be feeling pretty rotten tomorrow

Huge hugs Greenbee, you really are not having any fun.Bitsy_Beans wrote: »Like wise Vicks vapour rub on the SOLES of your feet. Again madness I know. Slather it on and put on socks. Does help.
Someone at work thought this was daft but now swears by it.
I have realised that we have no biscuits, and the little darlings have ripped through the birthday cake so I need to fill the snack tin today. This would be a lot simpler if I actually had any worktops
Wickes for slate laths (whatever they are) so that DH can carry on with the kitchen cupboard frames. Starting to get to the stage of deciding where I am putting things, and agreeing shelf heights that are practical for storage. After five years with no storage I am suitably over excited about this. I too can have an emergency cupboard, and reclaim part of my bedroom which currently doubles as a food store
ETA MG, hope you get over it quickly. And I do have some mincemeat so thanks for that.

DH offered to take DS to and collect from nursery the first week I was ill, but I said no, as he couldn't afford to lose the hours, I took DS to nursery, dragged myself home and back to bed, set alarm, dragged myself to pick him up, same again 2nd day. Third day I had no choice but to be up and awake as he was at home.
You are woman, you find ways to copeAnd I have been sleeping in spare room for last 2 weeks, last night was final night, back to normal bed tonight, and have shut my door and prayed everyone was sleeping soundly so they couldn't hear me coughing.

I agree Aesop - you cope because you have to.
So I don't drink more that one drink at the weekend - just in case we had to take a run to the hospital for any reason.
You drag yourself out on the school runs along with the other coughing mums.
You plan never to have a hangover - because dealing with kids the next day with a pounding head simple isn't worth it.
You continue cooking because you need to, you'd never see your kids go hungry.
I have had two days in eleven years when I had to call on my Mum to help - once I had a 24 hour tummy thing and simply couldn't drive DS1 to school - couldn't get further than the bathroom, Yuck!! And the second I had Mastitis - and had such I high fever I didn't know where I was.
So I have been pretty lucky now I come to think of it.

You were hospitalised with apendicitis last year also MG, your lovely Mum came in here and let us know and kept us posted as to how you were0

My story is similiar to yours MG in that the only time i've asked for help has been when a tummy bug has got the better of me. The doc thinks the youngest just has an infection not the chicken pox. I'm going to try oats in a bag at bath time!! The itchiness is really getting to him at times. I'm hoping the anti biotics kick in soon too.
Keebs, I meant to say 'congratulations', your post is lovely with an amazing journey ahead :AOne step at a time0
