Well my 'friendship' cake has turned out really nice - have decided to make a couple more for freezer as I doubt this one will last the day ! Friends will have to wait for starter till next batch is ready in 10 days time;)

Oops plain flour doesn't work instead of self-raising. They didn't rise and taste a bit like pancakes - nice but not a cupcake :(

What a shame, and it could have been easily turned into self-raising flour with 2 tsp baking powder per 8oz plain flour. Better luck next time hon.

I've got a fab gluten-free lime and coconut drizzle loaf recipe that I made for OH yesterday and it's DIVINE, the best gluten-free cake I've made, usually they're dense biscuits with a strange taste.....but this one is a definite winner!

Done some more packing today with DD's help. We now have 3 cardboard boxes in the corner of the kitchen and a few things on freegle have been snapped up very quickly, hoorah! I'm not good at decluttering at the best of times, but the thought of being in the new house surrounded by boxes for months doesn't appeal, so am doing my best to get shot of stuff I rarely or never use. DD has been quite good and donated a few unused colouring books and sticker books from her massive collection.
  • I would make the oats into Twinks hob-nobs - at least that's what I've just done for the same reason. Not exactly low-calorie, but a little of what you fancy and all that; not too bad as long as you don't eat them all at once!

Just had my first attempt at making cinnamon rolls; mmmm they are yummy! Definitely something to do again.

Urgh our freezer got turned off by accident this morning, so we have had to cook everything in there and defrost the thing. All while cooking a roast dinner and dessert for the in-laws! Just got 3 quiches to go. Some bits will last overnight and get stewed up and re-frozen tomorrow. Sounds like everyone has been mega productive too.

New sofa bed on fleabay tonight - hope I get it!

Hopeful - are there any charity shops near you? I have picked up some fabby curtains from my local one and I was in there again yesterday morning (before the snow arrived) and noticed that they have more curtains - thick lined ones as opposed to thin ones. Short curtains (to me standard size) seem to vary in cost between £6 and £7.50 in my local charity shop - longer curtains are more expensive but still cheaper than shop prices. The martial home is owned by him and probably mortgage free by now as it was bought for £17500 26 years' ago. I need warmth - this coldness is getting to my bones and I keep getting bouts of bronchitis which I never had before.

Thanks, Horace. I'd never even thought of looking in charity shops - doh!! I've been scouring the local netmums website and ebay over the weekend. I need to start with the youngest's room asap as he has a dirty, pink, black out blind that we inherited with the house, so cold or not it needs to go soon! I bought some cheap animal wall stickers off ebay and he loves them. Won't take much to keep him happy, although Thomas would get his version of a 'whoop' :D I hope you manage to make your business plans come to fruition. Did the snow come again in the end?

Everyone is so good at being domesticated on here. I have a lot to live up too!! I've only just cracked the meal planning malarkey :o Happy eating everyone :)

I wasn't paying attention so didn't even realise it was plain until they didn't rise! Is baking powder gluten free? Is it bicarb that isn't?!

Don't worry Hopeful1, I'm not usually domesticated - just very bored on Sundays as I've become a workaholic so housework & cooking keeps me busy all day! :o

    Gemmzie,
Bicarb is gluten-free (as is cream of tartar). Some baking powders aren't. You need to check the list of ingredients. Some have wheat flour in, others don't. I use the Waitrose Cooks ingredients one which should be OK as it has a rice flour base. (No, I don't do my weekly shop in Waitrose!)

    Hope that helps
