Teacher scared my son

My son came home tonight really distressed. Apparently he got told off by a teacher for shouting in the corridor, (I dont know really what was said but hes been in school long enough to have the odd telling of without it really upsetting him) She must have really laid in to him and then randomly accused him of bullying two of "her boys" two year 6. My son is only of slight build and shy and has no idea where this other accusation came from.

Anywhere He is really upset and completely denies shouting (I wouldnt mind if he did it its hardly the crime of the century.) Do I push for an apology (nobody saw this happen it was his word against two older boys running to tell on him) I dont send my son to school to be frightened by teachers especially when he isnt in the wrong. She has completely overeacted and Im livid on my sons behalf. Should I let it go

Speak to the school in the morning and see their take on it and speak to your son again tomorrow morning.
Sadly, you don't have any badges yet but keep trying! See what you could get........... oh boo hoo I am crying into my wine. :D

You seem to have made up your mind already, without hearing the two versions.

I would tell my son to put it down to experience and move on.

you only have one side of the story - and from what you've said, its a vague one side as well.

I would phone school tomorrow and speak to the teacher involved, see what their take on it was.
  • Its her lack of professionalism that gets me the most, ok kids need to follow rules but really shouting in the corridor, she actually got him out of class to speak to him because they had just got in from playtime. Total overreaction, invading a childs personal space is downright intimidating
  • All you have is a one sided version. Working in aschool, teachers don't just accuse children of doing something with nothing to go on! It's quite possible that he needed a telling off, and is now disgruntled that he was told off.

As it's a one off occasion, I would leave it! Obviously if he comes home again and again with a similar story it might be worth a word. Bear in mind some children can be VERY different at school, then at home!
  • I'm not defending anyone as I don't know what happened but what outcome would you like? Even if you went and told the head, what would you like to happen?
If you don't really want anything, other than to tell someone it happened then job done and move on!

How do you know this, were you there!

Taking a child out of class for a word is very common practise. It has nothing to do with intimidation. It's to find out what happened without 20+ other ears listening and jibing in! I think actually you are now overreacting.

as I said, speak to the teacher tomorrow, and ask them what happened from their point of view.

I remember being sh*t scared of a couple of teachers in my primary and high schools because they shouted - didn't make them bad teachers, it usually meant the kids in the class sat up and paid attention.

Thanks for the replies, im going into school tomorrow to speak to deputy head. Just wondered if the response would have been let it lie and move on. Just wish Id gone in tonight to speak to him cos it will be playing on my mind, probably best at least now it wont be "guns blazing"

Just thought Id say I completely believe him, he normally owns up when hes in the wrong but he completely denies it happened
