Going on holiday to Spain soon and I was wondering if it is worth opening a Euro account? I have already exchanged some Euros to take with me. But I will have funds going into my Citibank a/c whilst I am away which I will want to access.

Wierd, I rang Citibank to say I am going on holiday and is it OK to use my card abroad (ie do they need to know that I will be abroad). Apparently they don't need to know the card will work fine?

I am abit concerned as I have read a few posts from people who have gone abroad and not been able to access their funds. My DH's salary goes in whilst we are away and also our tax credits so we will need to access these. Can anyone give me a definative answer:- does my card need activating to use it abroad?

Just been upgraded to a 3-in-1 debit card - however they have to block the old debit card while the new one is issued , so havent given them the go-ahead yet for this.

I asked for an upgrade to a 3-in-1 debit card a few months back, although I wished I hadn't bothered.

They got back to me about 2 weeks after I requested an upgrade saying I had to ring/message them to let them know if I wanted the new card and then they'd block my old one. So I did just that and then waited... and waited and waited..... So, 3 1/2 weeks later they decided to send me a new card. Swift or what?

I'm not impressed at all with them. I was without access to my money for 3 1/2 weeks and all they kept saying was you'll receive your new card soon. V. helpful.

They don't even bother replying to my messages via internet banking either. They call this a service? The only thing they've been swift about is sending me a paying in book, then they sent me another 1 and another 1 for some reason.

Sazere - When I went away a couple of months back I just sent them a message via internet banking telling them I was going abroad - just to be on the safe side. Although I couldn't use my card on a few occasions as the retailers didn't have chip and pin.

    Hi Mouse,

I have opened a "basic" account in order to prepare for the upgrade to the 3 in 1.

Citibank have said the card will be blocked but I can still xfer a chunk of money into another account while I wait for the new card.

Your card will not work anywhere that doesn't operate chip and pin. It should work in ATMs, however, I had lots of problems using ATMs in Hong Kong, the only place I could use my card was a Citibank ATM!

I wouldn't rely on using your citibank card abroad if I were you and you need access to your money.

How is everyone finding the citibank account now it's changed to 'Plus'.

TBH, I thinking of transferring mine to the 'Access' account as I'm not using the benefits.

I also applied for an OD and got turned down as they said I didn't meet the critera - I have domiciled my salary for the last 3 months (the amount specified) and my credit file is slowly building up again .. but they didn't check my CRA files .. They just said they based the decision on when I opened my account

I'm paying in over £1000 a week into my account, and I was also refused the overdraft when I applied. I only wanted it as it was free, and for a buffer, so no great loss. Overall i'm not impressed with the account. Internet banking works well. Debit card is annoying, not working on swipe machines, trouble using abroad etc.

But then, I shouldn't complain overly, they did give me an account after all, when I would struggle getting a full account elsewhere!

well, I am amazed, went into local co-op shop, bought an item for £9.79 paid with card, no bother at all, our local co-op is also our main post office, went to post office to send a parcel off, put card in machine, (chip n pin) and it was declined, wow, asked why and the teller said in a rather snobbish tone, we dont except those kind of cards, went to the hole in the wall, balance £134.00 no money in machine, went to another bank, hole in the wall, got some money out went back to post office, sent parcel, then asked to see someone in charge, asked why they didnt except "that sort of card" was told it was an error, tried again with card with superviser, card declined, the company who runs the post office wont except citibank debit cards, wow, I have never been more annoyed in my life, so be warned, post office is a no go.

Citibank told me to withdraw whatever money I needed from a cash machine before old card was blocked, which is fair enough if they'd sent the new card within a week. Instead I was without a debit card for most of April which is pretty !!!!!!, esp. as this is a pay-per-month account!

My BF is with Barclays and all he's had is problems with them (that's another story though) but at least when he was on r&r from Iraq he requested a new debit card and he received it within a couple of days.

Banks - they do my head in.

say what you like my card was declined, I rang citi about it and they said some companies wont except them anymore as it cost them to process or something to that that effect, I have used the card in the past to pay my rent there, but they wouldnt let me drawn any money out, using the chip n pin machine, anyway I only posted on here to let people know the hassel I had had, but wont bother anymore, god I am so sick of people on this forum, @rseholes to you all.

Exactly - it wasn't directed at computerwoman but at the post office functionary who lied through her teeth. Sorry if you got the wrong end of the stick.
