Same here today, hubby was in a pickle at the petrol station as he only had his visa card on him. Luckily the lady let him walk over to the cash machine and take money out.£2 Coin Savers Club (Christmas)- £86£1 Jar (Christmas)- £29Christmas Vouchers Saved: £1450

Just been advised to pop my money in my US dollar account for use in the US, not the most convienient as I have to ring up to transfer money across and transfer my account once I am in the US as I want to use the card in the airport in the UK.

Sounds like some sort of blip then - is it possible the problems could be with the merchant. Maybe they are having processing problems ..
