My husband and I are discharged bankrupts (were discharged in 2002) and we have a flex account with Nationwide, with Visa Debit card, cheque book, guarentee card and a standard £750 overdraft. at the time of application they offered us a Visa CC too with a limit in excess of £2000 snd 0% for 9 months.
When they asked if we had ever been bankrupt and I had to say YES i thought they wouldn't even give us an account. what a nice supprise
Trying to get a credit history is the hardest thing after bankruptcy and I was almost ready to give up forever.
welcome to the club,
hope it all works out

I have been looking at citi website, and I am sure that you can use your US dollar account in the states,
The US Dollar Current Account key features and benefits include: • Write or deposit US Dollar cheques free of charge. Because we clear through Citibank in New York we save you time and money. • Receive and make payments directly in US Dollar. There’s no need to change between currencies - the amount, in US Dollars, is simply debited from your account held here in the UK. • Withdraw US Dollars from any Citibank cash machine in the US free of charge. • Transfer US Dollars instantly across the world to other Citibank accounts in 25 countries, with no fee charged2. • Flexibility at your disposal with negotiated overdrafts3. The US Dollar Current Account also gives you Citibank Online Banking, plus around-the-clock telephone banking with CitiPhone. And to ensure you're making the most of your money, Citibank offers a US Dollar Savings Account. Important Information Charges A monthly service charge of $20 on each US$ Current Account will be levied where the credit balance, across your UK Citibank relationship, falls below the currency equivalent of £2000. This will be calculated, at the end of the monthly period, by applying the currency exchange rate on that day to the average balances in your UK Citibank accounts. This charge does not apply to Citigold Current Account holders. "Sole" and "joint" accounts are viewed as different relationships. US Dollar payments into a US Dollar Account are free. 1. A charge may be levied by an overseas bank for this service. 2. Citibank Global Transfers have no transaction fee. However, a Citibank exchange rate will be applied if the transfer is made across currencies. Also, transfers can only be made to selected Citibank locations in the US. 3. IMPORTANT CREDIT INFORMATION Written quotations available on request. Credit is only available to persons aged 18 or over and is subject to status and conditions. Overdraft is repayable on demand. Interest rates are variable.
you can even check online where there ATM's are,

The lady struggled to understand my query, she passed me onto another colleague, who, a good as they were, couldn't understand what I wanted from them!
Oh thats not so good at all,
Just do what I done when I wanted a quick answer, I sent the same message everyday until on the 3rd day I got my answer. If I have been helpful - Hit the Thanks button0 -
For some reason, you can't use your Citicard in a shop which does not have chip and pin. I tried in Las Palmas airport and in Winemark last night and in both occassions they were declined.0

I think it is ridiculous that we can't use these cards abroad. Incredibly disappointed. I travel a lot for work, this is a big issue for me. I sent a secure message about this last week, still not had any answer.
I've also had my account for 3 months, crediting my salary of over £1000 every week, asked for the £500 overdraft and failed the credit check so they declined me!1st letters received on 16.02.07 for HSBC, Goldfish, Tesco, RBoS & Lloyds TSB0
