Reading between the lines on this, I looks like they have had a push or promotion, and set a target number of new accounts at the same time as relaxing the criteria.

Now that they have reached that number they may have reverted to the normal checking procedures.

    Thats one theory anyway!

Yeah, I think thats quite viable ...

  • Thanks..........well i will keep everyone posted. I just don't understand how they can send such a positive letter out then decline people, in the letter there is no ifs or buts it just sounds like you will have the account opened.......my mum received the same letter as i am trying to open one for her too.

I will let everyone know how i get on.......:o

    Yes, please do ...

yes it was abit gutting to recieve such a nice letter that did suggest they were about to welcome him, only to recieve another saying sorry but no thanks, I think they do have a criteria and I think they most have had an amount of new customers that they could take on at one time, but keep your hopes up, anyway he says he will try again in december 2007 and see if they give him one then, as he thinks it was a christmas and january sale promotion, he might be right there though as banks do that nowadays have sales and promotions, I remember going into barclays years ago and felling abit tickled at the prospect of a sale, and ask in wonderment what they was in there sale, anyway all the best, not everyone is the same and you never know you both might be lucky,

  • just an up-date on my chip and pin card worked fine all day out shopping, admittedly I was abit worried in the first shop that I asked are you c n p but it all went through ok and from then on there was no stopping me. so I guess it works.
it was soooo great not to be stuck in a cue at the ATM machine, before I could go shopping, as I hated doing that, for safety if anything, although I had plenty of money in the bank I did keep an eye on what I spent, just in case, I went over board. lol as if I could,

  • Spoke with citi on the phone to see how my application is going and they advised me it has been declined and I will receive a letter.......not suprised but little dissapointed........its only a bank account though eh
  • Hi, I am a newbie here. I applied for a Citibank account about ten days ago and on Mon(19th) I got the same letter, dated 15th(delivered by courier) as CW's son which accompanied my original documents. I wondered if this was the standard letter they sent with 'original' docs and perhaps they use a different standard letter if you just send them copies and they have nothing to return. It seems positive but I an not holding out much hope as I have a poor credit history although I am on electoral roll and have been at this address for over 3 years. I agree that they seemed to have reached, or even, exceeded their targets and are now reducing the number of applications they accept.
  • Well having read ElectricLady's last post, I rang Citi and have been told that I have also been declined. I can't say I am surprised either although it would have been nice to have a proper account.
I would add that I have a Nat West Step account which I applied for online and was opened within a couple of days. It does not have any proper card or cheque book but it offers the 'Advantage Blue' membership which is available to all NW customers which includes the car breakdown cover/mobile insurance/life Insurance and free cinema tickets for £6 per month. I have to say that I am actually delighted with that and it all arrived really quickly. It made me feel like a proper customer even if the card is only a Mickey Mouse one!
  • Have decided not to post my ID back to them as I'll get declined. Will just get a prepaid debit card instead and continue to manage my finances as I have been. Can't be bothered to go through the disappointment.
  • Well I will stick with Nat West for now and hope that in time they will let me upgrade to a cheque book once they see the account has been operated properly. Does anyone know if this is likely or if it is all subject to credit scoring?
