Finally got round to cancelling my application. Any other internet bank can quite easily open an account in a few days so whats the problem with these guys? The call centres are awful, nothing like first directs friendly yorkshire banter. I have left the citi bank club!

im now starting to think the same billbob only sent off application last week, but im not liking these horror stories about cards being declined for no reason. I know this can happen sometimes as a one off but not as much as it sounds like.

I think with the huge amount of applications Citibank are surely getting, along with changing the accounts over to either Access or Plus, it's going to take a while longer than some other banks.

I've had no problems whatsoever with their call centre/s, I can get straight through without being on hold, it's 24/7 & freephone & the advisers are always polite & helpful & genuinely seem to want to help. Everythings been explained to me & i've come off the phone happy!

It's everyones choice of course who to bank with & we all need to go with whoever suits us best, the Citibank thread was originally because one or two people found that they'd offer a full 2in1 or 3in1 card & cheque book to people with not so great credit & thought they'd let others know, which i'm glad about. It does seem that Citi have tightened up now, but because of some being declined we now have people getting annoyed, which is understandable as they don't seem to have a set criteria, but it's all out of hand & the threads should all be merged!

The thing is 2 months is not really acceptable to open an account is it. Because thats what it more or less is isnt it for Billbob and he hasnt even had it opened yet.

No, it's not but I think its the exception rather then the rule ... I know other posters have phoned them to get an update when they haven't heard anything ... I think I'd be on the phone to them ....

I think the only problems have been where swipe machine are being phased out as the citi card prefers chip and pin ... saying that I saw a post in another thread ealier who used his card abroad (non swipe) and it was fine ...

  • Hi all, my son applied for a citibank account on 31/01/07 the letter he got back went like this

    Dear mr xxxxxxx

Thank you for your recent application for a citibank product,

We have started to process your application and will be in contact shortly if we need any more information and/or documentation to open the product. If we don't need any more information we will open your product as quickly as possible so you can start to take advantage of being a citibank customer.

If you have provided us with original copies of your personal documents, these are now returned to you with this letter.

If you have any questions about your application at any time, please call us on 0800 00 88 00

We look forward to welcoming you as a citibank customer.

    yours sincerely,

    account opening team.

    this was dated 06/02/07

so when he got the next letter I felt sure it would be his pins, only it was not much to my son's dissappointment it was a decline letter.

    the letter goes like this

    Dear mr xxxxx

Thank you for your recent application for a citibank account.

We regret that after a careful review of the information provided, we are unable to approve your application at this time, as it does not achieve our minimum credit score requirement. Please refer to the enclosed leaflet (there wasn't one) for a full explanation of the credit scoring process and how you may obtain a copy of the information held about you at experian.

Should your circumstances favorably improve (we suggest that you wait at least six months ) and you would like to re-apply for a citibank account we would be delighted to re-consider your application.

please find enclosed the original documentation sent with your application, (there was none)

    Yours sincerely

    applications processing

you have the right to appeal against this decision if you so wish.
all appeals must be made in writing to:

and thats that then, I dont know what they mean by check his credit score as he's never had any debt but maybe because he's not an the electrol roll and he needs to buff up a credit score so that its a good one, as if he hasn't had any credit he cant have a credit score I suppose, if you can understand what I mean although he did not apply for the o/d they still did a check on him, wow
hope this helps anyone, and clears up any doults with letters,
oh well its not all bad news he can re-apply, but I dont think he's all that bothered really, as he has his switch card and is quite happy with that, it was me really saying he could make some money through quidco guess he wont get that now, and the fact that he is coming up to 21 and should have an adult account and not a mickey mouse account, anyway hope this helps,
    cw
