I just called for a progress update and have been told that I have been declined an account.
I have 1 ccj and a few defaults.
I believe some of the regular posters here have spoiled it for others. Citibank is quite specific on their site, that they demand £20k p.a. as income and a reference from the previous bank.

For one reason or another they decided to take on as many a possible new applicants. (The cynic in me believes it has something to do with the forthcoming account charges.) So they dropped their standards, and maybe only refused new customers with a record of fraud.

But here on this forum, you have a dozen or so people who believe Citibank is the second coming. And with the zeal of the recently converted they shouted “I lived in sin….oops….I lived in debt, but Citibank saved me.” Others came, trying one-up-manship: “My debts are worse than yours” “My credit rating is diabolical, they accepted me” etc. It’s one thing for Citibank to be the banking equivalent of the last bus at night, taking in all the drunks and rejects; it’s another thing, to be known as that.

This is a public forum, of course employees of Citibank will check it occasionally, to see what is said about the bank. They probably had no choice but to tighten their criteria and reject applications.

Big thanks to all those people who posted their tales what an easy touch Citibank is. They have ruined it for all those that come behind.
  • Hi I dont know what is going on with citi at first loads of people got an account then all of a sudden loads of people are getting declined, I think its just pot luck when you apply, my only advice would be to not go for the O/D which requires you to put £1500 in your account to qualify for this, and they do a credit check for this service, I am really sorry for the people who do get declined, but if it is your credit rating that is stopping anyone, then my advice would be to try and up your credit rating then re-apply.

Fair enough- I do earn over £20k and while my credit rating is not great I have been with Abbey for over 6 years, have a full current account, overdraft, debit card, chq guarantee etc. Many people that seemed to have got these accounts are on benifits etc or only have a basic account at the moment.
Its really not the end of the world as long as Abbey don't shut me down when I reclaim some charges!

I think you should wait for the reclaims. Try to get an account first then reclaim the charges.

People get into debt for lots of reasons, e.g. made redundant, long term illness. Not everyone thought they would just rack up debt then decide not to pay it back.

  • If someone posts a negitive remark about citi, then so be it, but 9 out of 10 remarks are 100% positive, so take no mind to negitivity, and lets put it behind us.

Just thought I would let ppeople know, Quidco seem to have received the payment from Citi bank. However it is still showing as £1.00

    13 Jan 2007 Citibank Banking UK Partner Program 0.00 1.00 received ~ Feb 2007

I have sent an email to Quidco and ask about the £50
