standing order is a fixed payment, direct debit can be varied for instance if you pay your mobile phone bill, one month it may be £30 the next £20 etc
safer to use So's with some companies.....like debt collecting ones who may vary it to pay it all off...yes it happened lol0 -

I have set up a couple, and even though you are asked to put in a reference number so the payment can be matched (e.g. your account number of your gas bill), when the payment is processed, the account number is not sent, resulting in the receiving organisation not knowing where to allocate the payment they received.
This only came to light when I received a letter from EDF to say they cannot allocate payment and they require my EDF Account number.
This is a real nuisance as I prefer SO to DD. Am I doing something wrong?
I have been charged a late payment fee by CapitalOne even though payment was made via standing order. So now I am having to chase everyone up to tell them I have paid. When you view the So on internet banking the Reference Number is not shown even though you have added it!!
I have 3 SO set up and all have went through ok, I called my comp today to make sure they got the money ok and Yip they did. Maybe call Citi and advise them.If I have been helpful - Hit the Thanks button0 -
