I also had problems with Comet when I tried to buy a tumble drier online last year with my Citi card, so I could believe that to be honest.

Sorry to hear that the Citi Bank relationship failed, never mind you and many others have provided months of thorough insight into Citi Financial, this thread should be printed to PDF and emailed to their customer relations dept and maybe they can adjust their business practice to work better from the feedback on here, thank you ComputerWoman(aka ICE) for starting this one off, maybe now have the Halifax account you would kick another one off maybe?
Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.

I would call them up and ask them if they have already conducted a search with a credit reference agency. If they have then things have indeed changed as it used to be the case they did not do this until after you returned the applicaton form (they were really just printing out a form based on what you entered on the webiste) and they did require a cheque.

I have to say this thread has gone on and on for months and it's certainly been inspiring that so many people have got involved.

It just goes to show that loyalty to organisations is so often a one-sided relationship and what starts off as pretty good can often disintegrate because problems (like those identified by ICE)/ComputerWoman) aren't dealt with properly and diligently.

well I have well and truly fallen out with citibank they rang me and I have to say what a horrid person she was...said it was all comets fault that they put on these sales but don't actually like people buying the stuff at knock down prices and as of the other day that will all stop because of the new laws that are about to hit so no mention of a good will gesture because I didn't get the fridge freezer I was after and to say thanks for being with us this long and they will close the account as soon as the halifax have sorted things out at there end...well I am blown over by it all....

I can understand you are upset about not getting the FF you wanted, however, when I said I had a problem with Comet and Citibank, it was Comet's fault, even the store manager said that their website just cannot cope, at times with sheer volume of sit traffic and automatic declines are a regular occurence. So, whilst I appreciate your frustration, don't automatically blame Citi. I wrote to Comet head office, I got a response saying their secured payments system can't always cope with demand, especially at sale times, no apology though, just said it was an unfortunate occurance.

Today, I needed to pay my Great Universal account, so tried my Citi card, declined. Tried my Natwest card, declined. Tried Capital One, declined. Tried Citi again, declined.

I called Citi, who said no transactions had been declined. Natwest said no records of any transaction going through.

Called GU who said 'Sorry, we're having issues' and automatically declining cards for no reason.

What I am saying is, whilst you are annoyed, quite rightly, with Citibank, remember the retailer also can have problems that cause your card to decline.

I generally always try to ring the retailer to ask if they have problems their end, then call Citi.

More often than not, it's a retailer issue.

    Just MHO

so I have gone nuts with citibank and it seems that it's all comet's fault in the first place place...I rang citibank today and apologised for my complaint about them they asked me if I wanted to re-open another account so I said yes I will give you another go so just waiting for all the stuff to come through the post eg: cards and pins...so I have another account with them but if I want to make a purchase over 300 which I will be doing in 6 weeks time I will use another account...makes sense really...:D
