The comment was made (and not by me) that the people at the top are beginning to regret their decision...
I hope there is some truth in that. Any new policy that leaves existing customers feeling cheated (whatever the amount in question) is surely a foolhardy one in the longer term.

I suspect that were I over 12 months into my contract, or if Orange applied this change to customers who signed up over 12 months ago, I would be feel less strongly about the increase because inflation is relatively high at present. Most customers would be within months of the contract end date or on a rolling contract and thus the impact would be minimal (as would the increased revenue).

However, the inflation justification is a highly dubious one because the change is being applied to those who, like me, signed up as recently as August 2011. Inflation has not significantly changed. Given the minimum term on a mobile contract, an honest company would set a price at the start that included prevailing inflation forecasts. The conclusion I draw is that the real reason for the increase is not just the rate of inflation.

Who knows - the retailer paying me cashback over the term of the contract may indeed honour their deal at the new line rental price meaning that I personally may hardly be out of pocket. If so, they get more business from me, whilst Orange have lost a customer.

Orange's corporate responsibility statement makes interesting reading and shows how hollow such statements can be. It even includes the words "fair" and "ethical"!:
    http://www1.orange.co.uk/about/corporateresponsibility/managing_our_responsibilities.html
  • I have now had two standard answers from Orange, each giving excuses for the increase but each time avoiding my specific questions as to whether their T & C are superior to those of the regulator and whether I had exhausted their complaints procedure.
Their last reply said they were "taking 7 days to respond" due to volume (and that was 9 days ago now!).
I will complain to the regulator (even though it may gain me nothing) once they say I have exhausted internal complaints purely to make them as aware as I can of just how irritated I am.

I hope many others are doing the same!
  • I just had a voicemail from orange regarding my official complaint where I stated the price rise was of material detriment to me. The tone of voice was that of how dare I question them, no apology, no customer relation tone but "Firstly we are not going to allow you to exit your contract without penalty..." then continued to refer to their terms. They then stated that both Ofcom and CISAS has reported that the price is in no way material detriment.

This response has just angered me even more and made me want to leave now. I thought that Ofcom had stated the material detriment needs to be assessed on a case by case bases?

Is there avenue left for me? If they are insisting that both Ofcom and CISAS are on their side?

I had taken a dolphin 10 contract in september this year and I was subjected to price rise too.only 3 months into the contract....could not imagine spending another 21 months with orange.i thought of moving my wife and daughter next month when their current contracts end.after this price increase I have decided to leave orange and paid penalty too.orange is never going to have me as a customer and neither can anyone that I can influence their decision.although their magic nos seem to tempt some their unethical price rises will put off customers like me.never ever with orange again.

You seem to be the most unfortunate mobile user. Your post on this Orange thread is only the tip of the iceberg

Your bad experience with Vodafone https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/3033952 where you describe them as "fishy! bunch of jokers voda really are" and also "changes to T&C's without informing the customer are I believe enough of a reason to get out of contract. Correct me if I am wrong. Ofcom's 9.2 directive clearly statest htat any changes need to be notified to customer IN WRITING. In this case i had not received any sort of communication from the vodafone."

Never mind, we always have O2 don't we?

Well maybe not according to your contributions here in April 2010 https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/719845
been with o2 for 2.5 yrs....
last time offered £10 a month with 200 mins and unlimited o2-o2 calls bolton and was chuffed with it.
this time i was asked to pay £23 a month on a 24 month contract for 300 mins and unlimited o2 calls with a Samsung Genio free.....
needless to say requested my pac now......will be moving to T-mobile who have got some irresistable offers.
bye o2 and by the way i am not regretting my decision...

So it was going to be off to T-Mobile, then? What went wrong there? Well maybe this time, eh?

Given your other gripe with your landline from BT as well, you really do seem to have more than your share of problems. ;)

Blame this post on rubbish on the tv tonight and a heavy cold preventing me from going out

Am i not allowed to have more than one contracts for mobiles? I never thought a mobile contract and a passport are same.....
Move on guysdad....my every comment is true in the past. I did have a contract with vodafone i did have a problem with them and that problem got resolved (may be you need some more time to go through my every other post).
I did move to Tmobile and stayed with them for 18 good months after moving from o2.....then moved to orange and now came out....i still got a voda contract which is to run out next month (missus uses it)....
now tell me what is your problem....i have seen also in the past you try to research on a comment from a user by going through their past posts and bring unnecessary discussions on here.
I only have posted in the orange thread because i had a contract which i now cancelled by paying their penalty.
Move on....I certainly dont have that kind of time in my life to research on a users past comments. I dont think it is necessary for me as its none of my business to interfere into others past and build up a picture of what they had done in the past.....

and one more thing, I only come here when i have a problem....so if you chance to judge me by my previous posts i am afraid that is the only things you ever find. as i said earlier due to my job commitments and other family issues i rarely find that kind of a time to come here and comment on things other than when i ran into problems .

Aye, but if everyone did that, then hardly anything would progress on the forum, Guys Dad gives some good advice and help on here, I know whom I would much rather frequent the forum :o

I am not disputing Guysdad advise here. Giving advise is commendable but digging into their previous posts and framing a picture and judging by the past posts and dragging on heels with satirical comments ????
thanks but the amount of free time one could get depends on the phase of hte life one is in....atm i have not as much of a time as other more frequent contributors BUT i did contribute in my capacity (see the thanks posts under my name). I do understand the need of give (advise) and take when needed. But I only give the advise on what I know and do not dig into other things.
