MSE News: Orange to raise monthly mobile costs

Just think. If mobiles had not been invented or people had not allowed themselves to get sucked in by mobile phones and the hairbrained perception that we need them - no one would be paying any increases to Orange or indeed any other Mobile company.
I blame anyone who got sucked in by the propaganda about this "must have" accessory for the increases. You only have yourselves to blame. No one is forcing you to have a mobile phone and - cor - think of the advantages of not having one:
Saving of £££ per year
Not being so contactable by people
If your "fantastic deal" is £35 pcm then dumping it would land you an even more fantastic deal of £420 folding readies in the hand.
That in itself should want to make you dump the mobile and the rip off contract that goes with it.
Perhaps people should cancel their contracts all together and not have mobiles at all and then Orange et al would go to the wall.0 -

heh heh , similar could be said for computing and broadband services, but you are correct, Orange did not hold a shotgun to the purchases heads or threaten their children, many wanted that shiny handset on the never never, so excited omitted to one day sit down with a cuppa and read what they have actually agreed to, whilst I would not welcome any price rise, it is just one of those facts of life0 -

I just laugh - people who stitch themselves up in contracts only have themselves to blame for signing for this con in the first place. I laugh even more when you see the amateur Perry Masons with thier empty threats of court and legal action.
And yes - personally I think it would be a better place without computers and broadband as well.
Think of the money one coudl save by dumping those things. The price of the computer and the eleccy to run it, repair costs and cost of broadband.
It is the same with Sky and Virgin. it would all tumble around their heards if people decided it was a load of pants and is somthing they could do without.0 -

Me too, although I used to look at books and thin wow! when you would see pictures of the future of communication and technology and that was before home PC's too and Atari and TV games for that matter
At that time we did not have much money (not that we do now) , for me I would not be without a mobile, but with the variety of sim only deals about, there is no need to pay over the odds to beta test handsets for the manufacturers just to say I was the 1st with this or that model. (which I have been guilty of)

I started with a Nokia 2140, and was the coolest guy in town, £299 for the handset plus £17.63 for 15 minutes airtime, for a wapping £25 you could get 60 mins, so it always amuses me when folk do not want to cough up for handsets today, even with the orange price increases, you get a lot lot more for your money.0 -
